Can you adjust the camber and toe-in on the RS?

Featured Replies

topic says it all.

Different top mounts? Would guess Golf competition items might fit.

Toe in (or out) is adjustable (as in tracking) on all cars. I'm not sure about camber on the RS though. However, if you are going to get into camber adjustment you need really good equipment and someone who knows what they are doing. I believe some branches of ATS are installing the more sophisticated equipment that can measue all aspects of suspension geometry. Don't be taken in by someone who claims to have 'lazer' alignment equipment this can sound better than it really is. The best machine I've ever seen is a Hunter DSP400 (www.hunter.com/pub/product/product.htm) but they are few and far between.

I'm sure an RS owner will step in with more info...

The following items cannot be adjusted, design related:

Front

Track difference angle at 20 degrees of inner wheel

Track difference angle at full lock of inner wheel

Max Wheel lock angle

Caster angle

Rear

Total toe in

Camber

It is possible to centre the front camber within the tolerance range by altering the position of the subframe with the mounting bracket. NOTE: Always replace the bolts and washers of the subframe when doing this as they are stretch bolts. Total toe can be adjusted on the front. Let me know if you need the settings for any of the Octavias as I have the workshop book in front of me

How the heck do you adjust the caster angle rear? or doesnt the rear have a caster angle.. hmm.. dont remember..

There is no rear caster angle, therefore it is tricky to adjust

Jon,

Can you help me with the settings for RS? There are just a few RS in my country and none of the dealers has the data for RS here, so I can not check my car. I need full settings, front and rear.

Thank you,

Mircea

Jon posted technical data sheets for running gear in this thread. This may be the info you are looking for.

I intend trying Power Station in Cheltenham to get the 4x4 set up, they did my STI & did it "their way" including something called a bump steer mod. This completely transformed the car & COMPLETELY removed understeer which all Imprezas seem to suffer from. The car just went where it was pointed

I will post my thoughts when it is done. Personaly I would say if you are looking to improve your handling beyond the factory settings for "Mr average" unless you know what you are doing go to a specialist who regularly does performance cars as they have an instinct for what works.

The only down side sometimes when going for specific settings is increased tyre wear, if you set the car to say turn in really well the tyres may wear on the edges on long straight motorway runs, I was warned of this by others on the Scoob but for me it was not a problem
