No body has tried it yet, I suspect it is possible, but probably far far too expensive to justify it. I think its circa

I bought one on ebay that is brand new and with receipt. 140 euro.

But a body of my now tells me that if i didnt order maxidot from the factory i cannot install it. There wire for it is missing he says.

He asked at VW in germany and they told him that he could not do it with a new VW passat.

Well know i have bought it :) then i'll just have to try.

Does anyone know if i need to remove the stearingwheel before i can remove the unit ?

You can remove the dashpod without removing the steering wheel. You'll need the 4 digit SKC for both the new and old Dashpod.

There is a very specific procedure for the change - do you have VAG-COM?

No you don't but it will need to be coded to the immobilizer to work.

Be mindfull of the two securing clips at the top of the dash cluster, you need to release the clips by inserting something thin and flat.

Jesus, Stu beat me!

No i dont have VAG-COM.

You'll need it or access to VAS to code the new dashpod.

Hmm not good :)

Hopefully i pay my local Skoda shop for building it in then.

I can see that a VAG-COM is costing alot more then i payed for the dash...

And people moan about the

Yeah i know about that ! I should have bought it but the dealer asked why i wanted it....

Instead of just selling it :) No i have to deal with all this **** afterwards hehe

Maybe you can re sell the unit on ebay and recoup some of the money.

Retrofitting maxidot sounds like an expensive nightmare.

Why should it be expensive ? Until know i have payed 140euro for the entire dash now i just have to talk skoda into installing it for under 200 euro then it has costed me the same as a new one, and then i can sell the old dash as a spare part on ebay :) who knows maybe someone wants to pay 140euro for a dash without maxidot hehehe

As long as the dealer will do it at the cost you expect then all is well. Let us know how you get on.

With your mileage in it?

I'll go and ask them tomorrow on how much it cost to get them to build it in. I'll write what they say :)

Thanks for the info for now, you have given me hope that its possible :)

i have retrofited with my correct km on it. All you need is to run the procedure on VAG COM and nohing else

Any chance of some more details? What model did you do it to? What parts did you need to get & how do you code the imobiliser?

I have been thinking about doing this for a while, but wanted propper confirmation that it can be done before I take another step!

How do you code the imobiliser?

The replacement dash pod should come with a code, and for your current one you should also have the imobilser code on a plastic tag that should have come with the car.

You need a 4 digit SKC calculated by Skoda for both the existing and the new dashpod.

It sounds like a lot of hassle for what you actually get from Maxidot. OK I appreciate the 2007 model has more functionality but even so...

I know it sounds like a lot of work & money, but it's the one thing I miss, having had the similar thing in both my last Golf & Bora. What I need to know is if I have to order any differnt parts (other than the dash pod) or if it is a straight swap, just needing coding in etc.

Once I know what I need and the cost I can decide what I want to do. If I do go ahead I will then be able to confirm this is possible for anyone else on the forum

The pod is a straight swap, not sure if all the wiring would be there though.

Thanks Stu, that's the sort of thing I will need to find out, might have yet another chat with our dealer tomorrow

I installed maxidot in a scoda octavia rs tfsi. All you need is 4digit code for the old and the new dashboard. Then you folow the specific procedure with vag com and thats it. All cabling is there. If you have navi you will need a cable that transmits data from navi to dashboard.
