Cruise Control Octy 1 vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just picked up the 2002 vRS 2 days ago, and I'm loving every minute of it, except the cruise control hasn't worked since i picked it up :( Took it into the service centre and mentioned it, and I'm bringing it in again tomorrow, but he freaked me out a bit by saying "I don't think it has cruise control"

Now, it has the control stalk, so presumably is has CC, right?

Another idea flashed through my mind, if the ECU has been remapped, does it affect the cruise control at all?

Anyhoo, tomorrow night I should know for sure I suppose, just looking for some reassurance!

Cruise Control stalk would indicate cruise control (which is an aftermarket installation, as I believe it was never offered on the vRS as an option), but it may have been disabled in the ECU. This would require changing a setting with VAGCOM. It may also be that the wires which go from the loom to the ECU have been removed/disabled.

I had cruise as a factory fit option on my 05 plate Octy I vRS estate.

Maybe it was introduced in later years???

The cruise control stalk can be seen on this pic - might be of help.

Pretty sure cruise was an option when I ordered my RS in early 2002.

yeah, i've definately got the stalk, but it does nothing. is there anything else on the instrument panel etc that would give me a hint?

i hope it's an oversight, as the dealer told me it had it!

If it has the stalk then it should be working , but there aren't any lights to tell you it's working.

I'd go back to the dealer and insist that they check it out - one possible cause is a faulty switch/wiring to the brake or clutch pedals as pressing either of these turns off the cruise.

So the salesman told you the car had cruise.

Now when it doesn't work they have suddenly decided it doesn't have cruise(even though it has the stalk).

Sounds to be like they are giving you the brush off. Give them the car and tell them to get it sorted - and give you a courtesy car in the meantime.

just spoke to the salesman again, he checked the chassis number and confirmed it had factory fitted CC as standard! Guess it's a wiring problem somewhere, so hopefully sorted!

I must admit, I am seriously unimpressed by the dealer, he isn't going to pay for the centre caps for the wheels that are missing, and he outright lied to me about the cars history. Got me wondering about what else he's lied about :(

I'd go with the brake pedal switch idea for a starter if it were me. After that then I'd suspect a faulty stalk, I've had a few on Fabia that haven't worked from new.

Silly I know but are you sure of the operation , ie above 15mph.

Was it a Skoda UK dealer?

IIRC you have a 30 day / 1000 mile exchange warranty that you might want to threaten them with. Or just swap it for one you are happy with.

nah, in dublin. to be honest, i'm mostly just annoyed at being lied to- the ironic thing is that the its he lied about wouldn't have impacted my decision to buy at all.

aside from these 1 or 2 problems, which should be sorted this week, i'm delighted with the car.

pity skoda salesmen aren't as quality as the cars they sell :D

I have just changed my Brake light Switch as my CC stopped working.

I cleaned it before but decided to change it this time round.

Have you checked your brake lights work????????????????

I'd be interested to hear where you got it...PM me if you don't want to broadcast it :) Btw I think Kit is the only one I know who traded in a Black Mk1 recently, but his had a different grill & wheels, unless he changed it when trading in.

yea i wouldn't mind knowing what dealer that was too PM me if you want to.

CC was definitely a factory option as were rear parking sensors.

Works perfectly in my 03 plate vRS which is also Black. Enjoy your new car, I love mine.

So is this all resolved now? Interested to know what the outcome was.

hey andy,

yeah, it seems to be okay, the service centre have ordered in a new cruise control sensor apparently, so it should be done on monday. Just shows you that it's not safe to assume that Skoda Garages know anything about Skodas!

CC was a factory option, i have just had CC fitted to my VRS Estate by Barkers in Hull and it is working fine, covered 2000 miles in france in 2.5 days and CC was a blessing. All the best getting it sorted.
