Is the date of a remap traceable?

Featured Replies

Basically would like to get a remap for furby vrs (am soon buying one ). However my insurance company won

Change insurer. :) Don't entertain any other attempts to be devious. :)

Being very naive. From what I understand (a more ecu technical person might be best answering) the ecu records everytime the eeprom has been updated and how many times.

Also the insurance company may still barf at a payout even if you "didn't know" it was mapped.

I just had mine remapped last week. I told swift cover and they wouldn't insure me "if I were to get it done in the future". Luckily I only had 2 days left so called around and ended up with Adrian Flux. I am fully comp and fully delcared (all mods) for under

You will find the EDC15 ECU as used in the 130PD engine does not log time and date of flashing. However the newer EDC16 as used in the 2.0 140 TDI is a whole lot more complex but there are still ways to avoid a "flash stamp"

Any remap is detectable.

Any remap is detectable.

What's the position of a plug in Tuning box?

It may be detectable (even when removed), but only because it's either logged fault codes in the ECU or because there's a nice clean patch in the engine bay where it was

Yep

The only sensible bit of advice

Any map is detectable by someone who knows where to look.

Youve also announced your intentions on the Internet & dont believe people dont look

I presume it will log how many and when it has been "flashed" as an E2PROM its very straight forward to put this function within the system (speaking in a electronic point of view).

Flash counters will normally be reset by mappers.

surely posting it on the web is enough to ensure the insurers know ?
