Machine Polishing - North East

Featured Replies

Hello,

If anyone needs their car de-swirling / machine polishing in the North East area pm me. Should have my car finished at the weekend (weather allowing) as have been removing nasty swirl marks after putting it through the carwash

What a mess it made. Carwash and Black Magic paintwork don't mix :o

Used my Biltema (similar to a Porter Cable) and have got the car looking swirl free. Will post some pics (if I remember how to) once its finished. Looks nice with the 19" RS4 wheels.

Cheers,

Darren

Hmmm funny you should mention this ive just got my mates Porta Cable to have crack at mine tomorrow,

Its going to be a long day then lol

What products are you going to be using? VAG paint is a pain in the ~@%&

You'll need something with enough bite to get rid of the swirls. I used clearkote compound moose with orange cutting pads and found it slow going. Was left with micromarring but have mixed it with some Menzerna Final Finsh and used the blue polishing pads to bring the paintwork up a treat. Should be really good once I have polished, sealed, waxed.

As per Detailing World Menzerna products are probably best for VAG paint.

Cheers,

Darren

Which bit of the moose do the products come from?

The ar$e end!!! :)

Mine could do with the swirls removing. Where abouts in the NE are you Gandalf?

Ive been using the PC with an orange cutting pad and some #80 & #83 and its been going rather well tbh..........well its not gone bad i suppose 10 hours gone and ive managed to wash, clay, wash and then PC the spoiler (tester patch lol), roof and bonnet which i didnt think was bad as ive never used a PC before

 10 hours!!! Have you got down to the primer yet?? ;)

on the boot lock yes :D it was touched up with a 4" brush i think so have gone through on it slightly but it will be right i can always get some paint for it tomorrow

Matt,

Patience is the key. From my own experience you need to ensure the abrasives in the product thoroughly break down otherwise you get micromarring.

With the Clearkote Compound Moose on slow speed the first pass looks like its doing nothing, but on the second pass the swirls are just about gone. If you look on detailing world different people have different techniques.

There are some very good write ups, particularly from Dave KG.

Cheers,

Darren

Yea i have been using the Dave KG slow cut technique on some areas :D

DW is an expensive forum so i try to keep off there lol

Tell me about it. My bank balance is frightened of it.

Still, it is good as it allows others to hopefully make mistakes with products, techniques before you do.

Thats the idea anyway.

i know but after the work i put in the car still has swirls so im thinking about doing silly things like getting a rotary and some menz polish :D

Good job i have some massive scrap panels if do get one *cough dad's work van cough* :D

Rotary???

Just be careful you don't go too far. How bad are the remaining swirls? What pads and polishes did you use? It may be that you ned Menzerna Power Gloss to get rid of them all. I think this is the most abrasive. You would need to follow up with Menzerna PO106 Final Finish. If you don't want to go for the Power Gloss then go for PO085 as a first step.

Have you got any pics?

Cheers,

Darren

they arent that bad tbh i think that 106 or even FF will get rid of them as the rotary is more evasive with defect removal.

Harewood house VW meet is coming soon so the only think ill be doing is topping up the Pete's 53 before then.

Plus like i said i have two work vans to practise on first :D
