What it's like further up the rev range?

Does the rev needle get to 4500rpm in the first three gears without slowing, for example?

Wouldn't know, no need to rev the boll***s off it, it's a Diesel, enough go for me up to about 3500RPM, any more to me is just wasted revs and fuel.

Shove in as much as you can get, but not too much else it won't clip back together again ;)

You say that going above 3500rpm is 'just wasted revs and fuel', but as my car's acceleration is constant between 3500 and 4500rpm in first, second and third, there's no benefit in me changing up earlier.

And as for 'wasting fuel', if this really represents your mindset, then I think you are missing the point of having a vRS.

Personally, I'd go canny, as I've read some posts (possibly on the actual thread where the Cage Mod first appeared) suggesting problems when an excess of grease gets forced out the back of the plug and into the air intake itself.

Can't remember which models this is claimed to afflict, unfortunately.

Surely something like copperslip would do the trick? :confused:

All the references I've seen specify silicone dielectric grease, nothing else. I got a hold of some CPU paste then noticed that it hardens, so had to wait till I went back to the UK to pick up a big tube from Maplins.....

Er, no.

You need an insulator, not a conductor, like what a slippy coppery goo will surely do.

Just get the real stuff here: Multi Purpose Silicone Grease > Maplin

And get the RE90X as this is the stuff in a tube, not spray.

Mindset eh?....Utter nonsense...... I have a vRS beacuse I like the way it drives and saves me fuel, it's nippy enough without reving it too much, well it is on the roads around Ashford.

Not everybody ownes vRS's to drive them like that.....;)

Mine easily gets up to 80 no trouble....

I think your mindset is a bit off thinking you need to rev it to those speeds in 1st and 2nd.....there 'aint no pull in first, second is marginally better, but I use third and fourth for any overtaking manouvers.

Also, have you had yours on a rolling road Mr Tickle? It is usual in a standard car for things to tail off after 4k. No point going past that point, if there isn't anything there.

Well, on the fine country roads and dual carriageways around where I live, revving to 4500rpm is practically de rigeur and something only a cad, or perhaps a bounder, wouldn't do.

I don't doubt it... second gear tops out at just shy of 60mph.

Booked in for a Power Run on the 11th of next month, as it happens.

I'm starting to think my car may not be standard after all.

A complete absence of smoke when giving it The Beans may suggest it is standard, though.

That and the fact its one owner before me was a retired gent who put only 8000 miles on it in four years. :)

Got a year's MoT, year's warranty, year's tax and a new cam belt (and it had just been serviced too!) when I bought it in July from a Skoda stealership in Edinburgh.

They took some cajoling to do the belt for free though, even though it is an 04-plate, probably due to it only having done 7910 miles.

I pointed out that VAG were ordering belt changes every four years or whatever miles it is first (and that they would have received a service bulletin to that effect), but the stealership said they'd only pay for half of the work.

Yeah, right!

I got Skoda UK on the case and a helpful chap there said if they didn't play ball then they'd call them to sort it out.

The stealership promptly capitulated. :)

Over the last 3000 miles I've averaged 39.5 MPG.

Clearly, I wholeheartedly embrace the Skoda Driven Briskly philosophy on which this site is anchored.

However, I have been known to average 55MPG when travelling at between 50 and 60 mph.

I know that the effects of the pikey mod are disputed, just wondering does the 100 1.9PD have a SMIC? If so is it in the same place as the Vrs?

I have slapped some on my points too just now. Letting it dry off a bit before spraying on some more.
