Fabia 1.9sdi starting issues

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 1.9sdi diesel Fabia 2002. The engine starts, but stops immeadiately.

This was a rare intermittent problem but know is happening all the time that I can't use the car.

The local garage mechanic said it could be related to the oil service indication displaying. But this was reset during the recent service.

The fuel filter was also replaced recently. There is plenty of diesel in the tank. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem maybe.

I will have to get a tow to the garage. So thought i had better check and see if there was anything obvious that could be wrong that i may have missed.

Many thanks in advance,

Mears

You need a diagnostic I think on this one mate. That'll tell you more than us guys can by guessing. Sounds like it's fuel related though but it could be anything.

Either get it scanned with VAG-COM or find somewhere with the kit to do it for you. ;)

Sounds like an immobilizer issue.

Do you get a flashing key symbol on the dash?

do the dash lights light up if not check the fuse for the dash pod i think its a 5amp miniblade fuse?

Like lummox said it sounds to me like an immoboliser problem, have you tryed using your spare key instead of the one ur using now?

Certainly sounds like a fueling problem. If you keep trying to start the car, does it eventually run?

Thanks for all your replies.

To update: Yes there is a flashing key symbol on the dash. Stupid me not noticing that before.

I contacted the local Skoda garage and they recomended that I switch on the ignition and leave it on for 15 minutes. This may well reset the immobiliser. Low and behold it worked the car started.

Great i thought until I drove to the other side of town and the car failed to start again. Same flashing light.

So looks like it maybe the key barrel thats goosed. The barrel apparently has a sensor of some sort in it that communicates with the imobiliser.

I have tried both sets of keys with the same results. So off to the garage tomorrow it goes.

It's a shame really because i really like this car but over the past two months it has cost me over

. I hope none of my fellow Fabia owners out there have to replace their steering angle senor and steering pump. Costs a fortune!.

No , but I've had to replace a leaky steering rack @

I wonder if it might be the knock sensor. On my Metro GTi (they were the good old days!) my engine did exactly the same. It started then stoppped. Sometimes it would not start at all. I changed the knock sensor and it cured it. Might be worth a look see??

Metro Gti----beast

Does a second or third crank get it started?

If so maybe you are getting air in the fuel lines such that the engine uses what is in the filter before more can be supplied.

Personally I would go with Ross' suggestion of the immobiliser as a first port of call though.

I know. Slighty hi jacking the thread. It was almost as good as my VRS, apart from rust issue. Mine was tuned to 150bhp and was awesome. A proper go kart on wheels!:D

Hi All,

Update on this issue is that the diagnostics didn't pick up anything!

Garage says it might be the sensor in the key barrel that is a bit dodgy but at over

i have had a similar problem the engine revs up on starting and then immediately dies and will not start for a while. Took it to sedgefield motor company who charged
