Can anyone tell me why ?

Featured Replies

This morning the talegate lock on my octavia estate stopped working with the central locking , that is if you lock or unlock the car all the other locks will work but if you want to lock/unlock the boot you have to do it seperatly.

This is a pain on its own but as I discovered when I tried to get in the car park at work, the windows will not go up or down but if you use the drivers door to lock to open the windows they work ??

Also the little LED in the drivers door has stopped flashing when you lock the car.

Does anyone know what the flippin blip is going on ?. :pillepall

tailgate c/locking switch gone for a burton!!!!!!!!!

I was more interested in why I can't use me windows.

if tailgate lock motor/switch has an electrical fault this will play havoc with the main c/locking unit and you will loose features basically the system goes in thermal shutdown.

If the tailgate lock switch is faulty the car will 'think' it's not locked even though it is (if you see what I mean!), hence the strange behaviour. You may also find that the boot light stays on. At one time the Octavia was notorious for faulty tailgate switches. I rewired a 1999 Octavia to use an old fashioned pin switch after replacing two switches.

Well it went off to the local dealer yesterday to be fixed under warranty. When I came to pick it up they told me that the boot lock motor had failed and that fuse for the windows had blown and that they were seperate problems?

You wont be surprised to here that by the time I had done the 3 mile journey home the problem had come back again :thumbdwn: . I might have to labour the point that if the fuse had gone for the window how come the windows worked when opening them using the lock? or just say it a bit louder this time. Or point out that if two thing fail at exaclty the same time twice! that they are probably symptons of the same problem.

So back it goes tomorow morning.
