Fabia vRS servicing intervals

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm now coming up to 10000 miles on my Oct 06 Fabia vRS.

I've spoken to two local dealers - one has quoted me

You need to have an "annual" service each year which includes an inspection.

If you're doing 20k miles in a year, you can defer the "annual" service until the 20k service (which includes the full inspection) and just get a "lube" service at 10k miles. Some dealers don't recgonise a "lube" service, but it's just an oil and filter change and should cost around 70 quid.

If you're doing less than 20k miles, you'll want the standard 10k service which is oil and filter and inspection and

God, I didn;t know that and MrsF did 27,000 miles last year!!

It's one of those anomolies of the Fabia service schedule.

For instance if you were due in September for an annual but had reached 10k miles in June - Which would you go for??

Obviously the best option would be to get the annual done as I believe it contains more operations and is possibly why you have had two different quotes.

Thanks for your advice.

Can I just clarify please?

The servicing intervals are likely to be as follows

Car bought new Oct 06

Now done 10000 miles so lube service required now- June 07

Annual service required - Oct 07

Estimated next lube service - Jan 08 (if I continue to do the mileage I am at present)

Therefore three services in 8 months - hmmmmmmmm.

Have I got this right?

I've been quoted

There are two servicing cycles for a Fabia;

1) Every year on its birthday it gets an inspection service, most of which involves a mechanic looking for worn or damaged parts. Lots of expensive time but probably not many new parts.

2) Every 10,000 miles, the oil and filter get changed. Also draining the fuel filter if you use biodiesel. High on parts (it's cheaper to supply your own oil) but relatively low on time.

If your annual mileage is a multiple of 10,000 you get both services done at the same time. Otherwise it's your judgement which one gets done early.

When you get to 40,000 miles or 4 years there are a few extra things that need doing the main one is the replacement of the cam belt
I dropped my car in a few weeks ago to have its 40k service done and there was no mention of the cam belt?

At the time I wasn't aware that it needed to be replaced and I presumed that if I dropped the car into a main dealer that they would inform me of any work that should be performed as per the service schedule. Was I wrong in my assumption? (Forgive me if this seems like an ignorant question, I've just never had a car serviced before as with my previous car I serviced it myself)

That's cos it's 60k not 40k......or 4 years, whichever comes first.

The 40k one is a lube service plus filters effectively. Mine's got that one soon as I'm on 37,500 at the mo.

It includes: Oil and oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter and a quick inspection of wipers/ brake pads/ tyres/ exhaust/ damage (anyone thinking the dealer spends hours looking at your car is naiive).

Additionally I think brake fluid is supposed to be done every 2 years, which I'll be getting done at the same time as the 40k service as I don't think it's been done before.

Ah right, that gives me a bit of peace of mind. However I don't think they did the fuel filter, he only mentioned the oil,air and pollen, should I be worried or is it okay to leave this until the next service?

It's not the end of the world but it should've been done. If blocked it could theoretically restrict fuel flow and reduce power and mpg due to the reduced pressure. Did they charge you for the full 40k job? If so, take it back and ask......they've billed you for something they didn't do by the sounds of it.

Well I paid

It's not just you mate, dealers all over the place seem to be surprisingly dumb. Comments like 'they all do it' and 'it's a phenomenon' seem to be regulars when reporting faults they can't explain.

Anyway, check to see if it's been done or not. If not, complain. It's listed in the owners manual as being a requirement at 40k. You could be really patronising and show the dealer the book to prove it. :D

I believe (and I could be talking out of my ar$e) that the coolant needs replacing every 4 years too.....

Chris

To answer your question, I Paid

Chris

Now I asked about this the other week, and Lummox said if there's not a problem, don't change it. As ethylene glycol coolant is no longer used it doesn't degrade like it used to and so won't corrode the HG.

The handbook also has no mention of coolant changes either. Hmm.

If the big fella says don't worry than listen to him over me ;) Pretty sure it was in my service book so maybe they've changed it on the newer cars - I know the Mondeo doesn't require coolant changes....

I wrongly thought it was a 40,000 mile change, most Briskoda members say 60,000 miles so it looks like you are OK for another 20,000 miles

You really should check on the cam belt change

If I was you I should put another post up asking about the VAG group recommendations for replacement of cambelts

Well just having a quick look through the service invoices for the car(it's a 2nd hand car), the garage before used 10w40 oil instead of the recommended 5w40

This really is unbelievable from a main dealer . I'm off on a weeks holiday in the morning but will definitely be following up on this when I return

That's cos it's 60k not 40k......or 4 years, whichever comes first.

Actually I think it used to be 60k, but is now extended out to 80k on the PD130's..... not that I'm sure I'd leave it that long :D

Other way round :)

And just to confuse things further the 40k isnt a quick service its a full inspection the same as a 20k but with all the filters.
