Adding the 2nd of Twin Towing Electrics

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've got a 1999 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi GLX Estate Manua

Its currently fitted with a detechable tow-bar and single electrics (for trailer/caravan lights only). I would like to fit the second electric socket, for towing caravan.

Is this as simiple as getting the parts (what every they may be) from Skoda and pluging them in - or is it going to be one of those stupid times, where I have to remove all the current electrics and then use a new 'twin' electrics kit

Any help welcomed

Cheers

Dave

Usually the second part of the electrics kit is seperate anyhow. IIRC isnt it just a main feed for the fridge etc.

It wont be plug and play as such, will probably require wiring up to the relay plate.

I've done a fabia which required to be powered from the relay plate in the dash. Used the Skoda kit though, it comes with the correct grommet etc for exiting the boot.

Why don't you keep the single socket and change it to 12 pin.

Hi Dave,

Easy, all you need is a "smartcom box" and 12S socket and wire direct to battery, but make sure you use the correct size cable (not too thin) and will work fine.

My advice would be to pay someone who knows what they are doing unless you are very confident. The 12S side is much harder than the 12N. I used to work somewhere that fitted towbars and electrics and we used to see some really lovely diy work - not. If Skoda do a kit that might be easiest as it should have everything you need - bulb failure relays? etc. if replaing the lot.

Why would you need "bulb failure relays" on a 12S system ?

Only if you replace the lot

Only if you replace the lot

Why would you want to replace the Lot?

As Dave has already said the 12N is already in place, so only the 12S is needed, and does not need any connection to the lights

so as I said in the first post it is easy

Hi there - my first post on the site so I'll keep it simple.

I'm about to add a 12S socket to an existing 12N set-up on my 03 Octavia 1.9TDI Estate.

Do any of you have any hints, tips or suggestions (other than paying someone else to do it!) about the best route to follow when running the power cable to the battery - nearside, offside, underneath, over the top (just kidding!).

As Drumbold said, "Any help welcomed"

Thanks,

cabski
