Hello all! Some Fabia related questions!

Featured Replies

First of all, I'd just like to say hi to everyone here. I am, as of Saturday a new Fabia owner!! I really can't wait for the garage to deliver it...however before they do I'm hoping you guys can help me on a few questions.

  • I took the car for a test drive and noticed the Electronic engine management light on the dashboard was constantly lit. It seemed to drive okay, but I know it shouldn't be on the whole time. I told the garage and the guy who was dealing with me said he'd put it through a multi-point check and get it fixed before I receive the car. Is this going to be a HUGE problem (i.e. something he can just turn off and ignore at the garage) or something they would have to repair to get the light to deactivate?
  • Is it easy to take the head unit from my Peugeot, (JVC, one I bought and installed in my last *cough* Peugeot *cough*)?
  • My old car also has a subwoofer in the back, again something I installed. Is it easy to get a live wire from the battery or any point in the car to power this thingy up?
  • What sort of sized speakers can I install into a Fabia. I presume the factory fitted ones are a bit lame?
  • Finally....the central locking isn't remote. I saw this Rightclick
Does anyone have any experience with such a kit, whether it's any good and how easy/difficult it may be to install?

Thanks for reading, I know there's lots of questions - sorry if I'm asking too much.

Jon

Welcome.

The car should be delivered without the management light on - You'll probably not know why it was on or what they did to get rid of it.

HU shouldn't be a problem, you'll need to buy a small trim from Skoda and read up on swapping a couple of wires over as well as using an antenna amp. All well covered if you search.

Sub - Again covered many time and there used be a be a pictorial guide.

Sorry not tried the CL kit.

Engine management light on would be a concern to me as it could be something simple, eg a sensor, or could be something potentially major - I'd personally find a local Briskodian with VAG-COM and get the fault codes read off before doing a deal so you can assess what needs doing to fix it.... :D

Sorry not tried the CL kit.

...but I do remember a thread on here a couple of months ago from some who did retrofit CL. Don't know if it was the same kit, but have a search on here to see how he got on...

Ooo I'll have a search for that retrofit CL. I'm a bit nervous about this Engine Management light now! The garage said they'd sort it anyway - plus I have a 2 year electrical and mechanical warrenty. Should that be enough for me to relax about it?

Chances are, it's a sensor gone somewhere. I'd just leave it with the garage to sort out. You should be fine, just don't accept it off them unless it's sorted. And before you do accept it, make sure it lights up and then goes off when you turn on the ignition. I'm not saying your garage will try this, but I know of at least one instance where a car leaking oil was 'fixed' by having the oil warning lamp disconnected. It's harder to do these days, but worth double-checking all the same!

Thanks for this. My dealer eventually found the problem - my Engine Management light was turned on because the EGR Valve had developed a fault. They just ordered a new one from Skoda, fitted it and the problem was solved!

Hope its not using lots of oil then as the this is quite often the cause of the EGR blocking up.

I have no idea Lummox! I hope not either - I guess all I can do is wait and see over the next few months - see what happens.

Hey Lummox, you don't think you could assist me with my other post (my car's built too well?) I'm trying to work on my car and I can't do anything at the moment. I would be so greatful if someone could help.

In the words of Victor Meldrew - "I don't beeeelieeeve it!". After my stealership 'repaired and replaced' the faulty EGR valve, the problem came back yesterday. Yet again, my engine management light has turned on again.

How should I deal with the guys I bought it from? Should I take the really annoyed angry customer stance :finger: or still be the nice kind customer :D

It's been like this since I bought it (even during the test drive) and they promised to fix it prior to purchase. Hmph!

Obviously take it back , but be civil and polite when you speak to them , taking the full strop right in someones face isnt condusive to them helping you out!

I see you are from the South West, what dealer did you get it from? Not SMC Skoda Exeter by any chance?

I would be nice, put be very persistant.

If you are able to come to the New Forest meet tomorrow, I am sure another member will be bringing VAG com and can look at your car for you.

Not sure if this is going to be of any help.

Hey Emily,

Thanks very much, I live in Bath and I got the car from Bryan Brothers in Bristol (a citeron dealership.....probably a bad idea). I'd have loved to come down and get someone with vag com to look at it but I'm away this weekend :(

Is SMC Skoda in Exeter dodgy too...or really good?

Jon

If it is a citreon dealer then are they going to have enough knowledge of vag com and a like. There is a list some where on here of people with the equipment and that are able to help.

I found SMC a bit negative all around. They hated me, and my car... were not very forth coming with information. For instance when I tried to order new seat bolts I arrived when they said the seat bolt would be in, asked the guy behind the desk if they were and he said 'I don't think so'.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Had a similar problem with the engine management light when I bought my Fabia earlier in the year. Was persistent and polite... despite the light coming on three times. Kept taking it to the garage to have it sorted. Replaced both lambda probes plus temperature sensor. Took a while but it eventually got sorted. Also, insisted that I wouldn't pay a penny for the three trips into the garage.

No problems since though (fingers crossed!)

Good Luck
