Speak rattle

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just bought a 51 magic black vRS (mmmm). Problem is, when I turn the bass up a bit and have it at a decent volume I can hear a rattle / creak etc...

Kind of annoying, anyone else had this?

If its the standard system and you've got lots of bass then it might just be that the speakers can't handle it. The standard Octy Speakers are awful!

I did that and changed the speakers... sounds great now!

Wow, quick replies!

I've got the cambelt, water pump and the air con to regass first and might look into upgrading the speakers then!!!!!

Thanks for the link on cutting the door lining out, I will look into it! :)

I had this, and found out that the owner before had placed the original speakers back in when he sold it to me, and the wires were just twisted together if that.

I found that if I had the LOUD button on the stereo it would crackle, but if I turned it off, they would sound ok.

I removed the door lining around the back of the speakers all together and have had no problems so far... fingers crossed... but I know some have had water leakage in the front footwells caused by this!

Get yourself a sub and filter the standard speakers for above 125Hz (e.g) only - that way you can cane the system nicely without risking getting leaky doors  .

Mine sounds just right with a custom 12" sub in the boot and a sony headunit.

I thought I'd have to replace the stock speakers but they don't sound too bad when EQ'd properly on a better head unit IMHO.

How would the sub plug into the current system? I'm guessing I'd need an active sub...

What sort of price are we talking?

I'd be happy to keep the standard speakers and take the bass off and rely on the bass from teh sub. Sounds like a cheap / less hassle solution.

This forum is great for quick replies too! :)

Think you'd probably have to change the HU to add a sub... might be wrong tho as I seem to be that today!

I'd have thought the sub would be a more expensive option as you'd need an amp unless you get the active system like your suggesting and then need to route the cable from the fron of the car and battery to the boot.

You'd also need an equiliser / filter to process the sound to the standard front speakers.

If you ask me, the best place to start is to change the fronts to something that can handle a bit more bass and then think about upgrading the HU to get the full benefit of the new speakers.

I'll second that i got a kenwood HU which has x-overs built that allows you to filter the mids and highs which does make the standard speakers sound a whole lot better

Blimey, aftermarket HUs have come on a bit since I was heavily into all that!

Sorry, yes you're right - you would need something to drive the sub.

I built my own box to house a pioneer 12" bought for around the
