my vrs nightmare

Featured Replies

Hello there!!

Just thought i'd write and tell you guy's my ruddy nightmare with my fabia vrs.

I bought my car from motorline canterbury in sept 06, the first 4 months i had the car it was definatley the best car i've owned, then things started to go wrong. Whilst giving the car some stick from a junction the turbo decided to blow of which shardes of the impeller went into the engine and yes you guessed it, caused major damaged. A new engine and turbo were fitted and had a relitivley trouble free 2 months driving. March 5th was when the car had to go back into the garage for lack of power and excessive smoke from exhaust, the car was shipped upto milton keynes as the skoda mechanics didn't know what was wrong and that milton keynes is head office of the tachnical dept. Have been without my car for 2 months now, seeking legal advice on how to deal with this matter in terms of getting a replacement car.

Anybody out there had a similar prob or have i just been very unlucky?

:thumbdwn:

2 months is not on, imho. What do the dealer have to say about it? If the dealer can't help, have you approached Skoda CS to see what's going on? Would have expected the technical team to be able to sort it in under 2 months!!!!

Chris

EDIT: No longer relevant.

IMHO you've been without the car for quite some time and should be recieving regular updates at least.

Thanks for your reply chris

Well i've done all that is poss in terms of sorting out over the telephone, the retailer wanted to wash there hands with it, they said that as i had the engine replaced by Caffyns skoda that they were no longer liable for the car, this has come from the general manager. As to CS no names mentioned, well what a load of b******s they are!! no real help at all.

I know, you would have thought that the top technical guy's at skoda would have put there fingure on it, but NO!

I hope that the investigations don't find out it's been modified or you'll be looking at big bill.

Hi Eddy, thanks for your reply.

No problem, my post was a little more helpful than you quoted though until Stu edited it. If you're planning on taking legal action then try not to post too much info on here as it could effect your case. Prehaps the freedom area would be slightly more suitable but still not ideal.

Have you been given any reason as to why it's taking so long and what they plan to do.

I've just come off the phone to Skoda uk and they've found the problem, debris in the catylict converter, can't believe it's taken 2 months for them to realise this. You wouldn't believe how many conversations i've had with Skoda uk.

That'll be from the first time. The cat should have been replaced when the new engine and turbo were fitted, I'd assumed it had been, otherwise it's the first thing I would've suspected. 2 months for that is a joke. It is strange though that it took 2 months for the problem to surface after the new engine and turbo.

Yeah i know, i've been pulling my hair out and god knows how much money i've spent on calls to Skoda. Don't know if it's worth going down the legal route now or not?

If you've got records (itemised phone bills, taxi/hire car receipts etc), you might consider a small claims action for expenses.

Wrt the problem, it's the first time I've heard of a cat ingesting bits, or did the exhaust turbine fail?

Even if no bits got to the cat the oil would have.

True, but all oil does to a cat is coat it and stop it catalysing; unless it also FUBARed the lambda sensor, there'd be no effect on the running.

it could of been blocked by the burnt oil , therefore no exhaust could get out , causing excess back pressure and lack of power

get this problem quite often on petrols when the cat fails but very rarely on diesels but have changed a few cats on diesel Fiestas a few years ago

  • 4 weeks later...

i had this problem with my alfa 156 cat - i noticed it was down on power, esp when accelerating hard - it felt asthmatic

turns out the cat had cracked and debris was blocking the outflow

i was quoted 600 quid from alfa for a new one, so i bought a decat pipe for 140 quid instead :)
