136b Favorit GLXIe Noisy at about 3kRPM+

Featured Replies

Hi . I have the same problem with my 1992 Favorit 135 Le. At 3000 rpm my engine souns very noisy. I haved set the tapets , at a time I was thinking that maybe is the water pump or the alternator. I also have a strange sound at the idle speed , like some metal thing and it is not from the tappets , I am sure it comes from teh crankshaft pulley zone. Any ideeas??Thx.

There's this an another similarish thread around; it might well be the timing chain. More likely on a high mileage engine because the chain gets stretched with use.

But the crankshaft pulley is around the location of the timing chain AFAIK which would be where the timing chain noise would come from.

You're right, but that was pretty much what I said, with a few words of explanation.

OK.So what is your expertize??It is the distribution chain???Thx.

It might be; timing rattle is pretty unmistakable when you've heard it, but I honestly can't say 100% without.

If it's there when you rev the engine in neutral, that eliminates everything but the engine, and if you then know it's not tappets, there's not much other than the crank pulley and the timing chanin left that it can be.

Hello.Let supose that I have to change the chain : it is something else that I must change at this stage??Thx.

I just saw someone saying that Haynes recommend chaning the timing chain on this engine at something like 40_000 mile (64_000km) intervals anyway.
