VRS TFSI owners - are you a happy bunch?

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I think this is probably my first foray into the Octavia II section...

I am considering taking advantage of the free equipment and servicing offer from Skoda at the moment and getting a deposit down for a VRS estate in Race blue (with every option bar sat nav).

Im still trying to knock a few more dealers down on the price but if I can get the price im after it will probably be a goer. :)

Really I guess Im after some reassurance that Im doing the right thing.

Can the VRS petrol brigade amongst you genuinely say that you are happy with the car and would buy it again given the chance?

Many thanks,

Lee

I have had my Race Blue Estate vRS since Febuary 07, now on around 4,500 miles. I love the car, fast enough for most circumstances (there's always a situation when you would like a bit more even when I'm on my much faster bike), comfortable and loads of carrying capacity. The only niggle I have is road noise, not all the time but it may be the Conti's and as they're on the 18's the profile won't help. Having said that it isn't really an issue just as I say a niggle.

Spence2, do you know what the road noise level is like on 17" ?

I know, "17" is more comfortable and the noise is abit better, i would never use my "18" anymore

That's really useful info, thanks very much.:)

mines on 17" and its perfect , i would definatly recomend the vrs, its powerful, comfy, and huge inside what more do you need in a car.

The tyre noise issue is really a bit of a nonsense, I have driven the vRS on both 17's and 18's and noticed no audible difference or any real issues with ride comfort, that said I replaced my tyres to Michelin PS 2's which are significantly better than the Conti's (the car looks a whole lot better on 18's imho).

I have been driving mine for 18 months and am very happy with everything it does, ride, handling, performance, equipment are a world apart from the MkI and imho nothing comes close to it in the sub

It will definatly be the VRS but whether is Diesel or Petrol is the real question, now it will probably ??? be on 17" whichever it is :)

Or could it be as Makefish says the tyres that make the difference as apposed to the wheel size ???

I traded in a V6 TT for my VRs because we were starting a family and needed more practicality.

We tested a number of cars including the Golf GTi and Audi A4 2.0T S-Line but none of them ticked as many boxes than the VRs. Those boxes being performance, vfm, practicality, running costs and desireablity.

I am happy with my VRs and am glad I opted for it.

Road noise is more down to tyres than wheels. You do not need to be conservative and get 17s (besides looking at your profile you will want the sharper handling/turn in given by 18s).

I drove two different vRS before buying both with 18s and OE Conti tyres. Boy were they noisy. I took the plunge and bought; but got the 18s fitted with Michein Pilot Exalto 2s (which I had on my Fabia at the time). They are a good 50% quieter; I can now hear the engine over the road noise.

My one complaint; the ride is too firm and jittery in OE spec. The simple cure was to fit Koni FSDs.

Overall; I guess the vRS owners (TFSI & TDI) are a happy bunch; certainly very few serious complaints get voiced here.

Bahnstormer vrs, I can safetly say from the few days I have been on here I have read little in the way of complaints, except the poor guy with the engine bracket problem, which does sound freak and definatly against the grain.

Overall I am getting the impression that the Diesel is just as good as the petrol with the added advantage of MPG, I do around 20K a year so running costs are a big consideration.

Whilst I'm on the subject does anyone know the service intervals for both the Petrol & Diesel, I have read somewhere on the site about people changing to variable servicing, which I assume is similar to how Audi do there servicing.... interval depends on how the car is driven etc ?

Also the BRISKODA community seem like a nice, helpful bunch.

Thanks

I've had mine since september last year and have no real complaints so far.

I have taken the Koni FSD route to improve the handling a little but to be fair, although the FSD setup is good so is the OEM.

I have 18" wheels, I think they improve the looks and would agree with the tyre noise issues mentioned. It's not the wheels it's the tyres.

Fuel economy is better than expected and the car never fails to make me smile.

I suppose to sum it up - It is a car I look back at when I walk away from it.

I know the feeling Stu

Cheers

Cheers for all the feedback guys, I'll let you know how things progress. :D

But how much extra have you spent on yours, ride, handling, performance etc to get it to the level where you say you would buy another, and surely the price of the car and all the extras(Revo, Miltek, Koni FSD's etc) take it over

Steve, it was not said as a dig against you, but seeing the way the prices of the Mk2's are coming down around here, I would question spending around the
