Xenon's advice needed

Featured Replies

I ordered my car from the dealer last week but have been thinking about asking him if its too late to put Xenon headlights and washers on it

1. Are these worth having??

2. What are the benefits?? (apart from brighter)

3. Is there a difference in apearance?? and if so does anyone have or know where I can find a pic with and without Xenons to compare??

Might be irrelevant if the dealer says its too late to add them on, but I'm hopefull seen as I only ordered last week and its not due till 1st Sept

They came as standard on mine, and being the first time I have xenons I didn't know what to expect, but wow, they do make a difference in the dark. The light is more white and illuminates across a wider area than normal headlights.

Ultimately if they were so great and fantastic they would be made standard on all cars, but give it a few years and technology filters down the model ranges.

You get the washers as standard - you have to by law I think with xenons as dirt can affect the beam and dazzle other drivers (I think....).

Not sure of the appearence, but if you look at my post here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/photos-my-new-octy-l-k/78887/

you can see a front/side on pic of my car but not sure it will show you much of a xenon headlight unit!

The only visual difference are the raised colour coded 'tabs' that house the washers, other than that you would'nt know until night time.

If your car is a factory order then you can change pretty much anything upto 5 weeks before it's manufacturing date, including the colour.

thanks think I'm gonna phone the dealer on monday

Get them for sure.

I had xenons on an Omega (2000/W) a few years ago that were better than standard lamps but not by the significant margin I had expected.

On my 2007 Octy I have them and WOW, like chalk and cheese. The light is much stronger and very definitely white, whilst the beam pattern is very well set up, wide, good spread over and up to the nearside and with good depth, with a well defined cut-off.

Finally, they are self-levelling, and do a nifty down, up, down to level 'dance' when they are switched on.

I have them on my Mk 1 - they are fantastic :thumbup:

Answer this question.Am i correct in thinking that it is difficult to flash with Xenons?

Nope, Xenons on the Octy only are the headlights, the flash/main beam are separate standard lights.

surely you just open your coat when you want to flash????

not sure what difference headlamps makes

They are also nice for making people think you are a police car coming up behind them!!

Really this depends upon how much driving you do in the dark and I mean dark. I do use roads that are essentially unlit but not often enough in the dark to make the extra cost justifiable. You just have to do your own evaluation. Plus there are some pretty trick bulbs on the market now that whilst legal are a big improvement upon standard and cost a lot less than xenons.

i found the xenons to be so bright on country roads that its a waste of time using full beam :-)

:iagree: As long as the levelling is set up correctly you rarely need main beam.

Besides, the standard halogen main beam is carp

:iagree: Me Too. Main is pretty pointless.

I'm thinking about fitting a bi-xenon upgrade to replace the mains. After all, the light unit already has washers and the self levelling fitted. That should satisfy the legal stuff:P
