Is it a car... or a crab?!

Featured Replies

Driving home yesterday, I was behind an old-ish A4 (don't know how old, it was from Poland so couldn't understand the plates), and I spent ages thinking "Something's not right here!?!" Eventually I realised, it wasn't heading in the same direction it was pointing - it was sort of yawing about 10 degrees to the right of where it was heading! I've never seen anything like it - anyone know what the heck was wrong???

Cut and shut, or a twist in the chassis maybe from a hefty bang

Tracking was probably out. Possibly due to a bad knock on one corner at some point.

As I understand it the polish version of an mot is a bit rubbish, and seeing as these cars dont have to apply to our mot, it will only be pulled up if the police see it and feel it is dangerous, or if the owner cant be bothered having to shell out for new tyres every week or so.

Chassis is bent by the sounds of it.

Hmm... Nice :smirk:

If you drive in Czech you will see Polski wagons loaded up with western write off's ......mainly ex German cars ! You proberly saw the "repaired" version

a mate's astra kinda did that after he belted a rear(?) wheel on a round about...

Seems to be common on Tansit/Sprinter type vans with LWB. I always put it down to wind trying to turn the large vehicle, yet forward momentum counteracting.

On cars, then tracking/twisted chassis is the likely cause.

lowered saxos and 106 are known for their crabbing, next time your following a **** in one have a look

i always see transit's and other vans just slide rather than go roundbends! and busses lots of small busses do it! when ever im following them, especially down here.

I actually saw this yesterday. It seemed OK in a straight line, but looked distinctly odd going round corners - kind of like it was fishtailing, but not quite. Mind you, it might have been because the directional tyres on the nearside were fitted the wrong way round! There's nothing like quality workmanship, and that's nothing like quality workmanship!!! :D

Yeah, I've seen it a few times on Sprinters / Transits too. I figure if the rear axle gets twisted that'll throw it out. Looks very odd!
