Used Approved Warranty Query

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps,

Hope you don't mind me posting in here.

I recently (april) bought a lovely 53 plate 2004 Octy vRS in Black Magic from a skoda dealer in Birmingham used approved.

Everything was/is superb, love it (want (think I want) a remap already!). However, the lambda went t'other week so I took it to a skoda dealer near where I currently am staying (ealing - dealer at Ruislip ish) for it to be fixed, which they did under warranty hurrah. Great place.

Whilst there I asked the mechanic who was doing the work "do you think the discs are ok?" to which he replied - after inspecting them for a moment - "they're dead mate, you'll need those replacing asap" or similar.

So I booked it in and had the front discs (rears need doing shortly too :/) and pads done. I had to pay for this, almost 300 quid.

Now am I wrong, or should the discs have been done before I took ownership of it, as part of the multi-point inspection that goes with buying used-approved? I believe so, i'd only had it a month, and done less than 1k miles (motorway, brum-lon-brum-lon) so they were certainly dead when I got it.

I'm heading up to Birmingham at the weekend and intend to pay the place a visit and see about getting the cost back.

I apologise if i've made no sense, but i'd appreciate anybodys views on the matter.

Cheerso,

Matt

Its down to general wear and tear. They might have done them if you had pointed it out before you took ownership of it.

I did front and rear discs and pads for

Agreed; discs and pads are "wearing parts". So is the clutch for that mater.

Cheers guys, I just hoped discs had been on the multi-point checklist, ensuring they've got some wear left on them.

My garage down here thinks I should moan at the place I got it though :/

Strangely enough was surprised to see on my warranty ( not via Skoda btw) that clutch is covered. Can't remember about brakes. Was car MOT'D before you got it --think condition /state of disks/pads is part of MOT and it could be a barganing point --should certainly be part of inspection.???

I don't doubt your word, but I'm surprised if the clutch is fully covered too. I would double-check for weasel words like "subject to inspection".

Aah I didn't think about the MOT thanks VWD! It was MOT'd before I picked it up IIRC.

Anyway i shall be going over in the next couple of days and will let you know how it works out.
