The old Scoby RB5 in its day was very fast however today hot hatches are as fast if not faster ,..... still I'd rather the RB5 one of the 444 units ever made.

The RB5 was just a bog standard UK turbo with a few cosmetic changes and as such is not really that fast, especially when comparing to the STi tuned cars of the same time....

Original UK turbos were 208ps up until the MY99 facelift (when the RB5 was released) and then were upped to 218ps up until the MY03 (IIRC) when the blob-eye was released and it went up to 225ps....

Bolleaux. The RB5 is worth no more than the equivalent STi (v6 I think), 5-8k according to Autotrader, which was available in a 4-door saloon, 2 door coupe or 5 door "wagon". The 22B is a special edition STi based on worth a heck of a lot more and if you can find one you'll be looking at around 20k for it.

I know which one I'd put my money into

I think you'll find the number plate on the bumper, the white strip, facing upwards.
