Best place to buy Compact Flash card?

Featured Replies

As per title, really!

I'm looking to buy another CF card for my D500.... ideally 4GB but 2GB would be ok if I can't get hold of 4GB or 2GB is really cheap ;)

I'm off on hols in 2 weeks so I need to get the card before I go..... any ideas where's best to get some from? I don't wanna use ebay cos you hear of so many cards on there being fakes...

ta for that... been looking on the Currys website and it seems incredibly cheap on there..... maybe TOO cheap?

currys

Only thing is it's unbranded..... so who knows what it'd be like lol

Theres always Crucial not the cheapest but it always works(and quick delivery):)

8gb for

Play.com were doing some good prices on Sandisk Extreme III ones Caz - I picked a 2Gb CF up the other week.

Amazon and eBuyer can also do good deals.

We've got a couple of the 2gb Extreme ones from Play - Seem to be a bargain.

It's all a bit irrelevant now as you've already bought them Caz :) But for dSLRs, I would NEVER sacrifice for unbranded stuff. Flash memory has a massive variation in quality and reliability for performance as there are hundreds of chips out there, some much better than others. Whilst you can just about live with slow write speeds on a PC or other, if you miss that moment you wanted to photograph because the memory card in the camera is slow or tempremental, you've lost that opportnunity forever.

Sandisk, Integral are the two I use most often. That 2GB for

yeah, I was dubious about buying unbranded... which is why I bought Sandisk in the end :)

Just waiting for it to arrive now..... I'm not a patient person lol

just looked back on play... the one I bought the other day is 2 quid dearer now! Hmmm

Well, seeing this thread reminded me that I needed to get another one. 2GB only gives me a tad above 100 shots on the camera, so went for 4GB. Checkout said

well, I deffo paid 34.99 - just checked my order confirmation ;)

just shows how quickly prices change.....

I have bought a couple of different types of mem card from mymemory.co.uk.

Otherwise got Google Product Search and search, this seems to give a veru good list of items and it compares as well.

Glad you weren't tempted to buy from Pixmania - they have a terrible customer service reputation.

I used ebuyer for my last card - Kingston. Still seems pretty slow though. Ho hum...

I use 7dayshop.com - Online shopping made easy ! -they had 4gb for 17.99 recently. They appear unbranded, but are actually made by Toshiba. they also have Sandisk listed for the same price, but currently out of stock.

They work fine in my 400D.

another fan of 7dayshop.com reporting in.

Bl00dy hell! What picture size is that? I got nearly 2000 shots on the 4GB CF I took to Kenya last Summer!?!

Well, 10MP shots comprising of uncompressed NEF + basic quality jpeg are about 18MB each. :D

As well as the brand, you need to look out for speeds too when comparing. It's a minefield out there though. Between the dubious manufacturers that claim high performance when their cards are slow and the more reputable manufacturers where their claimed speeds are pretty much valid :( The cheap 4GB Sandisk cards are not high speed which you need when shooting in raw

hmmm went to check the speed of what I ordered and they've gone up another 2 quid on Play lol.....

SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash 4GB (what I got ;) ) is now
