Help!-steering problem....

Featured Replies

My 02 reg octavia elegance tdi pulls to the left.I think I have seen this subject mentioned before, but has anyone ever got to the bottom of it?The car has had this problem since new.I have had the wheel alignment checked several times, each time they said it was out and adjusted it.last time it was checked by a skoda dealer using "optiflex" 4 wheel alignment gear.It is now better, but not perfect.Questions-is optiflex the VAG approved gear-the dealer didnt know but did say the trackiing on octavias is mega-critical.does anyone know a dealer in my area(n.yorks) who can sort this problem properly?

thanks,jon.m

They all pull to the left. Apparently only really specialised shops can adjust/find out where it is wrong.

They all pull to the left.
My 4X4 doesn't on a flat road! :)

Nor does my vRS, on any road ;)

Try measuring the ride heights on each corner. My MKIV Golf used to do this until I replaced the suspension with a Bilstein PSS9 kit. On the OE suspension, all four corners had different ride heights. With the Billys fitted and the ride heights set equally across the car, it no longer pulls right or left.

So am I expected to believe that your car's steering is unaffected by roads with pronounced camber, Geoff? To expand my earlier remark, whilst my car's steering is unaffected by 'normal' camber, it isn't clever enough to compensate for pronounced camber. :(

Mine will sometimes pull to the left. Recently though I've been driving on the other side of the motorway (roadworks) where the road has a pronounced camber to the right (as I'm driving). The car will pull to the right on that stretch of road. I'm satisified, in my car at least, that it's just sensitive to the camber in the road.

Yes my car was supposedly setup on a Optiflex rig,,, but car veered to the left and needed physically holding straight.. Dealer took it to a normal fast fit tyre place, to find out that the tracking was way out...

As it still pulled to the left, another Optiflex was carried out.. which discovered the Rear NS wheel was 1 degree pointing in towards the car..

This wheel is the only one to escape damage during my accident...

The rear axle is bent which you can physically see...

I'm demanding my car to be taken to the local Audi centre which has a modern infra red computerised setup, that measures everything...

According to Ross @ AMD and the Audi Tech ,, Optiflex is old and not that accurate!!! Also you have to have someone who knows what there doing!!

P.s. My car did NOT pull to the left at all on normal roads before the accident...

With just me in the car on a flat road the steering is OK,however when there is a passenger in the front seat and even a slight camber the car wants to go left.If I drive on a road with camber the opposite way the car will pull slightly to the right, but not as bad. This is my second octy, the first didnt do it.Another thought(perhaps a long shot!)this car is on Pirelli p6000 tyres (which incidentally are wearing evenly)my first octavia was on Dunlops, might the car be more sensitive to camber on Pirellis?

Do all Audi dealers have this new-fangled tracking device?
