Aerial adaptor

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I was wondering if you can help me. I've purchased a Kenwood head unit but the MW/LW bands don't work on the radio. I discovered that it's because it needs an adaptor, which I have since bought.

Can anyone please tell me how to fit this to my Mk1 Octy vRS?

Cheers!

Shaun

you need an inline aerial amp.

it fits between the existing aerial leed and the back of the head unit, it needs to be attached to a live feed and then you will get some am/lw reception.

hope that helps

Autoleads adaptor/amplifier is the one commonly used. It is powered by the electrical aerial output of your new headunit. Normally Pin 5 IIRC, you may need to remove a cable already occupying this location on the car end and tape it back into the loom out of the way.

Agree with Stu, but beware - I have had two duff one's from hellfrauds!

The first just didn't make any difference but the second failed after at least six months so If you get the adaptor and it makes no difference you've probably got a wrongun!

Hmm, i bought an autoleads adapter from hellfrauds and it made no difference so i assumed the problem was elsewhere but maybe i bought a naff one. Is there an alternative to the autoleads adapter?

Not that I'm aware of but I found the best way to check was tune it to a station on mw or lw and see if the signal improves when you connect the power to the adaptor.

Also one of the lights on the head unit display used to come on when connected (can't remember which one though, maybe traffic indicator???).

I checked mine in hallfords car park so I knew immediately that the second one I had was faulty when I tried the third one - they even changed it without a receipt so good on em'

can someone post a pic of one of htese? i think i have one but i didnt connect the live feed.

just want to make sure it's the same thing. looks like a long metal thing with a converter for the original socket.

oh and stupid question but can i use the remote amp cable to power this?

Sounds like you have the right part but need to make the connections.

I don't have a picture but they are silver, about 3" long, about 1/2" wide with a socket on one end with two flying leads coming out the other end - one probably blue for power, the other black with the ariel plug to connect your head unit to.

Any 12v supply will suffice but most people prefer the "electric ariel" output usually found on most head units so it's off when the head unit is off too.

You should notice a reduction in static and/or hiss or just a general reception gain when you connect the power up so try it with the head unit out of the dash.

sweet thanks, hopefully will explain my lack of reception at the moment. also final question - sorry for the hijack - my jvc unit doesnt save any of the settings when i turn the car off. in previous cars iv had to swap round the memory and power cables on the convertor.

before i do this has anyone else experience this and is my solution right?
