So many problems......

Featured Replies

Tomorrow is D day I am going back (yet again for the 5th time) with my car and it's many problems to see what agreement if any I can come to with them but I am a bit rubbish and always let them talk me round so just want to check a few things.

Firstly there are the repairs that need doing.

Power Steering*

Suspension**

*To make it sound like I know what I am talking about I will tell them initially I thought it was the steering angle sensor as the warning light just came on and off and I had the lights flicker on the dash but now I am not to sure as the power steering has cut out a few times on start up and the steering makes a noise so think it might be the fluid now.

Oh and last night the car wouldn't start after about 5 attempts it finally started and the power steering wasn't on until after driving for a bout 1 min.

Does this sound ok?

**Suspension - don't know if I will get away with this but will give it a try. I will say my suspension is getting louder and creakier when going over speed bumps and I am not sure everything is 100% especially on the drivers side and although I am aware that they changed 1 coil spring can they check which side the new one went on.

I was thinking of mentioning the bushes (is that right) but not sure if that is been cheeky trying to get new ones out of them so was just going to say can they check the whole suspension.

I am then going to explain that I am having big concerns about the car and all the niggling problems I have experienced and the fact it has been back 5 times when I have only owned it for 8 weeks is not good and with only 1 month left on the warranty I am becoming a worried man.

Now here the tough bit which I will cave in on, do I ask them outright if they will extend my warranty out of the goodness of their hearts or do I just say will you get in again and double check everything on the car.

Do you think that sounds reasonable?

I do feel sorry for them in a way as it's all common faults with the car which has happened since I have had it and they haven't been existing problems which I inherited when they sold me it (apart from the thermostat) they couldn't have forseen and non of it has really been there fault, so I want to push for as much as I can but don't want to take the micky.

I'd personally see if you can get them to sort out all the problems upfront rather than relying on the warranty in the future, if you can persuade them to do so - no time like the present, and no amount of warranty cover will help you if the car breaks down in a big way in the middle of nowhere. Prevention's better than cure, after all!

I'm sure they'll try and get you to agree to a warranty extension given the opportunity, as I reckon it would work out cheaper for them, but the trouble is that complying with the conditions of an after-market warranty can work out very expensive for you - and any non-compliance with the Ts&Cs would make it invalid anyway...

Just my 2ps... :ne_nau:

List all the problems you have, give them a deadline to correct the problems or you will reject the car... always good to put this in writing too...

I will get them to sort the problems out anyway I am just worried that with it been one thing after another they will fix this round of problems and another load will come up in a few weeks.

Just been to book it in and he seemed to think that it is because the fluid is running low.

Looking at where the fluid tank is could this explain my leak and my small damp patch I am getting from the very front right?

My flood was caused because the bulk head drain thingy had a botch job done on it and they had filled the hole in.

He going to have a good look at the car for me next week and try and sort everything out.

He was been very cooperative so didn't want to push him any further.

One thing to bear in mind when trying to trace leaks on the Furby is that the engine undertray can collect drips from one place and then they drain from another. This meant we thought Mrs Ap0gee's car had a weeping seal somewhere, when in fact it turned out that it had been overfilled by the place we bought it off, and the excess had pooled on the undertray. Once it had been in for an oil change (done properly, this time!), and the oil had been cleaned off the try, there weren't any more leaks.

I'm not saying you don't have a leak, just that you need to be aware that the drips on your drive don't necessary match up with the location of any leak in the engine bay. But then again, it sound like your garage is doing their best to sort things out for you, so perhaps you shouldn't worry too much about doing the fault-finding yourself!
