Diesel chipping...

Just looked at jabbasports www. Looks quite good and relatively cheap to have TDI's remapped. It did concern me a little that my Skoda dealer may spot the change at the service intervals, of which I have a lot due to quite high mileage. If Skoda spot the change, can they refuse to service the car, or even change the ECU back without telling you? If I was going to do this, I'd need assuring that my dealer isn't going to screw with me on anything...Its ironic that I was actually quite near Peterborough the other week when I went to pick up my alloys - went to Wisbech to look at a swingshovel (long story). Maybe next time I'm back "home" which is near Leicester, I'll pop along the A47 to the Jabba place...

The remap will be invisible to your dealer. They will only find it if they take the ECU apart (although some rechips can be done through the diagnostic port) or they measure boost levels while driving your car.

They might notice the extra poke if they take it for a drive too.

I would imagine that they have better things to do though!

Some dealers have been known to turn a blind eye...;)

I dont think they would go as far as refusing to service your car, if a chip was discovered. At worst the warranty on the engine would be voided.

There has been scaremongering about dealers resetting ECUs. But i doubt they do this as a matter of course.

Revo do a chip that can be switched off somehow, to avoid detection at services.

Another idea is a tuning box, as you can remove it before a service.

I cant reassure you that everything would be hunky-dory with a rechip, so its really up to you.

Mines great fun though! :)

Hope all this is of some help!

devonutopia,

Just as a matter of interest.

Wings of Peterborough (according to Jabbasport) are selling chiped Skoda's with warranty intact, not certain if it's with Jabba's chip or another but they have a demo RS with a Jabba chip installed or they did last week.
