Felicia 1.3 Thermostat

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

The thermostat on my 1998 Felicia 1.3 stopped working. On inspection what had happened was that the clip that holds the thermostat in place had 'disapeared' leaving the thermostat proper to move about in the housing. The local motor factors cannot supply a replacement as the item is one of the later types of thermostat and not an improvement to my mind on the old bog-stadard model. My local Skoda dealer reckons about a week for delivery!!!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement in a hurry as I'm due to go on holiday at the end of this week?

Hopefully,

Alan.

I would suggest contacting another skoda dealer to see if they have one in stock as this is a common problem and they are usually held in the parts section because of this. This is not an item that your local motor factors would have i'm afraid and will cost you

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I cannot find any bits of the clip as it seem to have broken up completely. As the water pump is situated fairly high up I don't see any problem with the broken parts going through the pump, but will drop the bottom hose to see if they have ended up there.

THIS guy is cheap and delivers quickly. Click the link and scroll down.

Good luck.

Dear sir, I too have recently fallen foul of the thermostat.....issue. As mentioned already you should get a genuine replacement which will be readily available from a main dealer. A word of warning, some motor factors have a stat listed as a replacement on it's own. Their name sounds like an Auto Factors near Reading. This item is not as promised. I have a box containing said item waiting to be returned.

Good luck,

EP.

thanks for all of your wonderful informative postings on the overheating problem... one more question just so I can be sure to order the right part.

Can someone tell me the part number for the complete housing including a new thermostat for a

Felicia LXI hatch- 1.3 R reg 1998 - its the earlier skoda not the VW engine

There is only one supplier i would use ,Home , If he cant get it , you dont need it

i had a look at a fabia today for my friend it was a 8valve 1.4 and the engine looked the same as in my felly the coil pack and everything apart from a couple of bits is this right ?

The 1.4 is a development of the 1.3 but its not exactly the same.

so wouldnt a 16valve head off a 1.4 fabia fit on my 1.3mpi felly :P

16 valve 1.4 is a VW unit - different engine.

I don't know, but you'd need the same bore centres, and for all the oil and water ways to line up to make it a plausible conversion, and then you'd need to check compression ratio and valve to piston clearances.

Thanks very much... I have ordered the part and hopefully can work out how to fit it myself. Does anyone know how long it might take to fit?

Doesn't take too long - I've done this twice on two cars (both times the thermostat has broken up inside) and it is quite straightforward.

Firstly, take off the Expansion tank Cap, then drain the Coolant by removing the top hose from the Thermostat Housing. you can also undo the bottom hose or take out the Fan Switch from the Radiator.

Then undo and remove the return hose (to the tank) on the right of the housing, unclip any wiring etc..

Remove the three bolts from the housing which will then release it.

Give it a good flush with a hose, then put the new housing in place making sue you put the rubber seal in the groove and then just put back everything you took off and refill with G12+ at the correct 50/50 mix.

Then start the car, let it idle until normal temp with the Tank Cap off to expel any air that will have entered the system.

Check for any leaks etc.. and thats it.

Hope this helps

In a word, NO

haha alright was just a thought :p what would i have to do to get more performance from my 1.3mpi that telfron tom said was possible?

Big power costs; how fast can you afford to go?

theres no limit really with in reason.. will it still be using the 1.3 engine though?

I'd be surprised if you could see much more than 100bhp/litre from an 8 valve engine without going to forced induction, or having a bespoke set of forged crank, rods and pistons made, and new pushrods if it's the original OHV engine.

what do i have to do to get this 100bhp? :P

What engine are we starting with?

the 1.3 mpi engine
