Got Rear Ended

Featured Replies

As the title says, basically topped off a **** day. Started off by someone opening a door onto the rear 1/4 panel and leaving a ding in it. To top that off on the way home a car ran into the back of me when stopped. Hit me square in the middle of the bumper. The 2 bits under either light got knocked out a bit. The bumper has some minor scratches...but its dirty. I'm more afraid about behind the bumper. The car was booked into the garage anyway this week so will get them to give it a good going over.

Anyone give any things to check for from past experiences. The bar behind the bumper seems straight but its hard to get a good view.

I don't think it was a massive impact but sounded bad, the time between skid and bad was very little. But after the initial shock and adrenlin wore off my mid to lower back was a little stiff, SWMBO is also the same and her mother who was in the back. I hope to god its not serious. I can't believe such a little impact had this result on my back.

Youd best get yourself and the others in the car looked at , better to be safe than sorry with back pains. I'm glad it wasn't serious though , and hope your car (and its occupants) are back in tip-top condition soon.

Cheers, gas thing is the Gardai was more interested in the car being a vRS. He was thinking about bringing a Yellow one in from UK but wasn't sure of the colour.

Whats the story with regards back pain, can you get checked out and send insurance the bill ?

That is one bad day you've just been through. :thumbdwn:

Get yourselves checked out - 'minor' injuries may lead to worse things (sorry to be a downer).

Plus -

I remember one of the 'lads' where I worked getting shunted (I happened to be nearby) - He rubbed his back and said "I can feel compensation setting in" :D

And it did and he made the most of it - even got round to painting all his house whilst he was off ;)

As far as the car goes , lift the spare wheel cover up and look carefully at the boot floor for any distortion.

Also look very closely at all the shut lines around the tailgate , bumper and rear doors.

When my Mk 1 got rear ended it looked ok from a few metres away but up close everything was out of shape and it was nearly a centimetre shorter than before.

Oh , and claiming for non-existant injuries....... not good

Oh No - didn't mean that - turned out he'd a chipped bone in his back. But if he hadn't gone and got checked over he may not have found out, perhaps until later and then it might have been too late to claim.

It's quite surpriseing how the cost of these things mount up. As you may have read mine was hit last Friday. I won't go into too much detail but suffice to say it could well end up being 4 figures to repair it.

Thanks forthe replies. I'd only claim if I was really hurt, the only thing I'd be afraid of is something that might not show up now but give trouble down the line. It was a little stiff and uncomfortable this morning.

Its going to garage on Wednesday to have it looked at. I'm gonna mention removing the rear bumper to have it well checked. I don't want anything popping up down the road.

I rang the insurance this morning, when I gave reg. he said.......Nice Car :) , obviouly people are starting to cop on a bit about them....first the copper yesterday :)

Bascially I can go through my insurance or go direct to theres, I think I'll go direct. Gonna wait until Wednesday after garage visit to see about damage.

Btw @ Stu I didn't see the posts about your (gonna look now), any pics ? Maybe email me them ;) and what damage was done, it'll give me an idea of things to check...again by email ;)...thats if you don't mind

had a look there but can't find anything

Mine was a 'little tap' on the front end. WW_VRS reversed into it at the meet last Friday. Barely any noticable damage, it's the cost of parts and labour that hikes it up.

Still waiting for the official quote to come through.

Hope you get things sorted soon mate :)

It is amazing how the bill tots up, definitely worth removing the back 'bumper'.

sorry to hear that GAFF, whereabouts did it happen? i'll have to avoid the area in case he has a thing against Octys!

From the two I have had, you need to be checked out by a doctor within 24 hours so a trip to the doc and getting it noted on medical notes etc.

If things get worse this will be required for you to be able to claim for your medical expenses (so I was told).

Hope it isn't anything major as i still get the occasional moment from where I had an accident almost 3 years ago :(

Rotten luck mate.

From another mate (replaced a Suburban Useless Vehicle with a Furbie TDi130 estate), get yourself, your passengers and the car checked over properly. It takes a big nudge to bend an Octy. She took a corner off the SUV without bending the Octy she hit.

Sorry to hear Gaff. Plastic and metal can be replaced. Look after your back.

got shunted in my old octy......guy hadnt passed a driving test (you dont have to here) so for him not having passed a test and being a cheeky baw bag i took him to the cleaners!!....there was very little damage to my motor though!!....it was the principle:).......but anyway off to the docs with ya gaff and have your back checked out:)

k:)

got shunted in my old octy......guy hadnt passed a driving test (you dont have to here)

And then you wonder why the insurance is so high!
