Re-mapped Fabia vRS v Civic Type R

Featured Replies

Can you review what the torque is like in the 231bhp Mazda?

When I drove one I was using max revs all the time on the track - but would be interested in real life.

Power delivery is best described as "linear" You do need to revs the nuts off it most of the time but not as bad as a VTEC.

I think more like she couldnt get vtec as someone has already mentioned they work on oil temp and wouldnt have been warmed up. definate  for the hills bit. the Vrs pulls like a train up anyhill.

Trains dont actually pull very well up hills though

Thanks, should have said pulls like a train that is on level ground when going up hills. thats probably why i failed GCSE english 3 times D'OH.

:rofl::rofl:

Ok perhaps its me but ive test driven the old shape CTR 197bhp and i thought it was slow I have played with a few and always won.

My most memorable was in High Wycombe - I was 2 up full tank of fuel boot full of luggage and rear seats up to the roof lining jammed full of gear. Thi idiot came racing up to the lights windows open music thumping and then he glanced over and started to rev - I knew it was on but I just left her on idle I pulled away fairly quickly but only 50% of throttle in 1st then changed up at 4000 (I have 7500rpm) at which point he was level then into 2nd 75% throttle I really pulled away - and in 3rd he was long gone (though I could hear his vtec sreaming).

He was 1 up and when he pulled up at the next set of lights I checked the rear suspensioin - and it was clear he wasnt carrying any weight in the boot.

He nailed it off the lights again (just looked straight ahead this time & music was turned down). I didnt even bother.

It really isnt a fast car & look at the following link for the Golf GT TDI150

http://www.dieselcar.com/pdf-files/articles/tests/vw/162-gp-golf-tdi-pd-150.pdf

but what were you driving? and if it's a GT TDi, what've you done to get 280bhp & 260-270lbf

I suspect he's talking about his chipped Fiat Coupe turbo ;)

Chris

Its not quick off the line not great 0-100....

low 6s to 60 and 16s to 100 is very good compared to cars of the same age in the same class. Unfair to compare to an older, lighter, more powerful turbo'd car.

Yeah, apparently he has stripped a bit of weight out too...

Lengthened the wheelbase, too!

ahhhh...makes sense now :) didn't think the numbers sounded right for a diesel :o but it does kinda illustrate how "fast" is relative - a poorly Octavia with an ATP 2X Eliminator kit() feels well fast to me, but might not seem all that those with a big IHI Octavia or Eddy

I wouldn't call a CTR "slow"

:)

Closer to a 5 series now. Must be better

16s to 60 inst quick IMHO - my car std did 0-100 in 14 seconds (Autocar original test back in 1996).

In the Fiat coupe they limited boost std in 1st & 2nd gear to restrict wheel spin & also the LSD. They restricted the boost to 0.4 bar and normal is 0.8bar IIRC.

Autocar got 0-62 in 6.0 with a std car with only 220bhp and limited boost 1st & 2nd gear.

If you have a look at the Fiat Coupe forums you will see that the highest power is currently 550bhp ish with MANY over 400bhp.

I have read that the std garrett KKK (IIRC) turbo is good for 330bhp.

When this was new it was

16s to 60 inst quick IMHO

I don't think many would consider that to be quick!

It's all relative though, your Fiat would probably feel slow to me. :P

Sorry for very off topic - but I think its necessary to highlight what I am used to and what I consider to be fast.

Yeah those coupes are quick...

Coupe_takeaway.jpg

I too apologise for the off topic but the fact is we have 2 or more new Fabia VS threads every week and frankly they are all the same. We need to move on from this now.

Well given a std vRS does 0-100in 23-24 seconds and most go on about how fast it is I take it as given that most do think thats fast, especially following all the comments about how quick the CTR is...well its not really and its guttless so you have to rev the nutts off it to maintain speed.

What car do you have and what power are you producing + torque?

Oh FYI std BHP/tonne is 170bhp/tonne mine is 215bhp/tonne min.

As far as reliability is concerned (touch wood) in my 4 years of ownership only the normal wear & tear items have needing replacement.

Id even go as far as to say the total spent on parts in that time is the least I have spent on any car - yes even the Mk4 GT TDI 115.

Some people get through a lot of oil - but thats due to driving the car very hard (they use up to 2ltrs of oil per 1000 miles) I tend to use up to 500ml per 1000 miles.

You said 60 in 16s, I know it was just a mistake but my comment was tounge in cheek.

My car is an Octavia 4x4 currently running around 440bhp/370ftlb. Which is around 290bhp/tonne.

...and a Lotus Elise R is 220bhp/tonne - but then the only race between that and a Fiat Coupe would be to see which one broke down first!

:sofahide:

[edit] Damn! He's just said his has never broken down! [/edit]

On a side note; you jumped into the car and hammered it straight away.

I always give it 7-8 miles below 3k to let it all warm up.

Never owned a diesel before so don't know, but aren't you supposed to let them warm up before gunning?

Tbh, I really don't think it makes that much difference.......

Chris

You give it some welly but not excessive. If you dont give it any it won't warm up either. Tricky balance ;)

The 4x4 with major power like EddyH's one, or even much 'lesser' powerful cars will muller a Fabia vRS in many situations for sure.

The cars are for different markets IMHO anyway, and the Civic Type R is a very nice car in it's own way. Why not enjoy it :)

CTR is 16+ seconds std Coupe20vt is 14seconds std.

290bhp/tonne I'd say is very rapid, the 996 Turbo 420bhp had a bhp/tonne of 271bhp/tonne

A TVR cerbers 4.2 has a 306bhp/tonne ratio

As good as the handling is on a Fiat Coupe (said to be one of the best ever - alongside the integra type R - back in the day) a louts elise would kill it round the twisty but as it doesnt have much total bhp it loses out when the speeds get into the 3 numbers.

Sorry, but neither power nor weight have much bearing on ultimate top speed - it's all about aerodynamics - especially up in three figures. This is why the fastest cyclist ever (Bruce Burford, with about 5bhp/tonne) managed over 200mph - he was on a static rig, and so suffered no wind resistance. IIRC, the fastest 'true' cyclist's speed (i.e. actually moving, and therefore subject to wind resistance) is somewhere in the region of 130mph - little more than half that...

Anyway, this thread's been hijacked plenty enough already so I'd better leave it there... :o

To get to 3 figs you dont need a lot of power - a Ford Ka with its very old 1.3ltr will just do it and that has 50-65bhp. So more aerodynamic cars similar weight and 4 times the power has a lot of difference.

Im my view air resistance up to 100mph is not that much - over 150 is very significant though.

I have said before that 1400bhp Skylines (not cheaply done but
