Re-mapped Fabia vRS v Civic Type R

Featured Replies

There's this girl at work right, and she's got a Civic Type R '54 and she's always bragging about how fast her car is.... 200bhp.... blah blah.... no one ever passes me going home from work... blah blah!!! So anyway, i happened to be on a shift swap which meant i was in work the same time as her so i told her she should get a proper fast car like mine (no one knows i've had mine re-mapped by the way). When we finished our shift and were walking to our cars i said to her, "Go on, i'll give you a head start". As she got into her car she s******ed, "You're on!". So as we drove out of the gates there's about a mile straight to the roundabout, i just sat behind her to get a feel for how much power she had. Coming off the roundabout i floored it in 3rd and watched her dissappear in my rear view mirror. Silly girl, never saw her again, ha! Does this count as a victory even though it was against a silly girl?

Depends on whether she was trying when you came off the roundabout? Anyway, we're not supposed to have these conversations

My bro raced a new type R on the motorway in his re-mapped VRS, said no difference up to 140 then his turbo shut down and engine went in to safe mode DOH! I would image if she could drive properly she would have won fella!

All fun though

It would have to be a heavily mapped Fabia to get near the Type R.

Then when you come to a corner it's game over for the Fabia (even with suspension upgrades).

she was probably racing you only up to the roundabout :o)

What he said ........ the furball would be competitive in a straight line to a point that is, but the type R would have it in knot's on the first set of bends.

I met up with a new Type R on the cat and fiddle heading to Nottingham a week or so ago in my Octy, I was having to work fairly hard to stay in touch as it seemed to be a really agile car, who knows though, he may have been looking in his Mirror saying "Sh!t, that big blue skoda thing's there and I am driving my teets off"

I agree with whats been said above. A re-mapped furby will "keep" with a CTR in a straight line and make the civic driver feel like a tool but in the twistys it hasent got even the smallest of chances of keeping up. The CTR isnt that quick in a straightline compared to the other big boys but it was never designed to be, in the corners it will eat you up and spit you out!

Agreed. Also, we're just talking 'keeping' here too. No gaining or taking. That high revving beast will make the Fabia have to work it's nuts off on the straights but it can be done until the first bend where you'll end up in the nearest ditch and the Honda will annihilate it. They're track weapons those things. The Fabia is not.

What he said ........
Eh ?? What who said ??? If he said what you said, who said what he said but not what you said ?

Strangely theres no sign of snoopie in this thread

he mustnt have seen it yet

Only a matter of time Col.

Well from experinece in my car, pre self destruction, I can stay with standard type r's up to around 90 mpoh in a tsraight line, then it's game over for me, they just pull away very quickly.

Some of you may remember a thread in 2005, about me mauling an integra type r locally. I'm now mates with him, and even though he has had alot of work done, including launch control, I can still hold him off until 90 mph, at which point he rips past and off toward the horizon.

When I had the Octy, running whatever it was running, I had a play with a 270 bhp teg on a private road, and we were fairly well matched up to 160 (speedo) where I started to pull on him a little.

Never taken one on in the twisties though, but i imagine the Teg would leave me standing, if driven well. Same with a type R i guess, although sheer grunt out of the corners may even that out a little.

If the OP's victory was within 10 mins of starting the cars then the CTR wouldn't have even had vtec as it uses oil pressure and without the oil being up to temp there is isn't enough.

Ok perhaps its me but ive test driven the old shape CTR 197bhp and i thought it was slow I have played with a few and always won.

My most memorable was in High Wycombe - I was 2 up full tank of fuel boot full of luggage and rear seats up to the roof lining jammed full of gear. Thi idiot came racing up to the lights windows open music thumping and then he glanced over and started to rev - I knew it was on but I just left her on idle I pulled away fairly quickly but only 50% of throttle in 1st then changed up at 4000 (I have 7500rpm) at which point he was level then into 2nd 75% throttle I really pulled away - and in 3rd he was long gone (though I could hear his vtec sreaming).

He was 1 up and when he pulled up at the next set of lights I checked the rear suspensioin - and it was clear he wasnt carrying any weight in the boot.

He nailed it off the lights again (just looked straight ahead this time & music was turned down). I didnt even bother.

It really isnt a fast car & look at the following link for the Golf GT TDI150

http://www.dieselcar.com/pdf-files/articles/tests/vw/162-gp-golf-tdi-pd-150.pdf

My Octavia Elegance killed a remapped Fabia VRS on more than one occasion. The same Octavia struggled against a MK1 Civic Type R.

I think you were either dreaming or she wasnt' really trying.

Did you get a look at her face? Thats the usual way to tell if the other drivr is trying.

Is she cute?

If you were gonna be racing CTR's you should have bought the 2.0l furby and taken her like a king over and over :D

I have beaten a civic type R up a dualie, up a 1 in 10 hill. But then I did wonder why I had got past so easily, later found out he couldn't get 4th so essentially did 3rd to 5th which is why I was able to hammer past in 4th. I think I would only have kept up or marginally been a bit quicker had he got that gear first time.

I think hills play to the vRS favour (no torque in the R). Also, don't forget mine's a bit more than just a remapped pd130, although I still think it will give more power than it is. Reminds me, an email to Allards needs drafting out. :D

Doesnt the CTR has slightly more torque than the Octavia Mk1 vRS - admitedly much higher up the rev range

isnt it 140-odd lb/ft?

or maybe im thinking of Toyotas 1.8 VVTi

142 lb/ft of torque at 5600 rpm according to wikipedia. :)

Anyway as I said I certainly do not think the CTR is fast having driven it and had a few plays.

Its not quick off the line not great 0-100 and in gear its poor unless youve got a bag full of revs.

Maybe I have this view as Im used to driving a much quicker car - but then again the GT TDI 115 Golf in gear was very good.

142 lb/ft of torque at 5600 rpm according to wikipedia. :)

lol so there I am 280bhp & 260-270lbf against a measly 197bhp & 142lbf ROFLOL.

And to modify the CTR for more power & torque is big

So the verdict is........

She wasnt trying and in future, only race up hills.

Can you review what the torque is like in the 231bhp Mazda?

When I drove one I was using max revs all the time on the track - but would be interested in real life.

I think more like she couldnt get vtec as someone has already mentioned they work on oil temp and wouldnt have been warmed up. definate  for the hills bit. the Vrs pulls like a train up anyhill.
