Is the 5w50 or 5w40 better for the 2.0 APK engine?

My local VW/Skoda dealer says thet they put 5w50 oil on the engines, but looking on castrol website I can see ONLY that the one for the VW sercice is the 5w40, is any problem at future with using wath dealer says? saddly i need to follow they sugestion fot my warranty service.

I was hoping for someone who knows more about the oils to answer this, but IMO you should NEVER use a thicker oil than the OEM recommends in a hydraulic tappet engine, because it adversely affects valve operation.

You might never have experienced this, but my car sounds "quietly tappety" when started from cold at sub-zero temperatures, because the thick cold oil stops the tappets reaching their correct lengths.

I think you should go with what your dealer says since that takes local conditions into account.
