Jack for the Felicia

Featured Replies

Wow - how useless is this bit of equipment? Bloody thing slipped whilst I was changing a wheel and through good fortune the whole car didn't land on the floor....... Took a few nice gouges out of the sill though...... Very poor design - I'm an experienced jacker (fnar fnar) and this is the worst bit of kit I have ever had the misfortune to use.

hmm you were lucky.... it's the perfect example of why you shouldn't go under a car which is supported only by a jack

Absolutely - if I was at home it'd be the hydraulic jack and axle stands. I am stopping at a mates place on the way home to fit the wheels properly.

i would only use the standard jack as a last resort as it is sh**. I cannot fathom out how to jack it without it slipping either.

its still got me flumoxxed as to how to use the dam thing without it slipping. and i'm well trained in every aspect of lifting and slinging gear. tiss me job

Most common mistake is to jack it up with the handbrake on

:) Glad you weren't hurt.

The jack on the rear engined cars is great. It's well made, sturdy, locates into a proper purpose built mount under the sill and is designed to lift the front and rear wheel at the same time.

Had the pleasure of changing one of my dads wheels after a puncture on Friday night!! He has a Hyundai Accent and the jack is worse than the Felicia - if thats actually possible. You cant simply wind it up, you have to turn it half a turn, and then remove the wrench thing to wind it, and then repeat the process - every half a turn. A pain in the a***

I had to change it only 5 weeks ago - so it makes the Felicia's jack look like a dream! If only I could fit my hydraulic jack and stands in the car as well as the stereo

one of the best oe jacks i've seen is the one from a 6n2 polo.... cheap to get from the breakers too, and the groove will fit the sills on a felicia a treat!

Know this thread is a little old now, but you could keep a small bottle jack inside the spare.

I carry a small trolley jack in its own case and doesn't look out of place in the boot. I was fortunate in coming accross a lady with a Saab and flat tyre on the front. I notice the car was slipping so slowly off the type of jack your talking about. Enough time was had to put the trolley jack under for support. I have also done Classic car trialling in an Estelle and would never go out with out the small trolley jack.

we call them widow makers!

whenever im changing a tyre using the useless little jack i always when ive taken the old wheel off put it under the car so thatjust incase it does fall off and your leg is under the car it wont do any major damage...dont know if it would protect the car much but it will save you a trip to hospital

i've yet to have a problem with one. maybe im just on good terms with my guardian angel eh?

Nah your just to perfect

ive only ever used the standard jack on my fun, as my trolly jack will leave marks in the body kit, and ive found it to be the best one ive ever used!

i'd hate to see the others you've used!!!!!!!!!

that should be the best one supplied by a manufacturer. and being a mechanic ive tried a lot.

not a huge fan a the original jack, thing was a so n so to set up properly then the fear of the car fallin on me, no thanks, so today was walkin oast a shop , went in to look, s a joke offred a guy 3 pound for a trolley jack. an he said yes. ooo the luck! ( was his last day but oh well)

I haven't had any issues with my cars jack.

Used in on a levelish driveway, but I'll be sure to look for slipping signs now.
