Re-mapped PD170 - NOW 204 PS/319 lbft

Featured Replies

As of 11:12 am July 16th 2007 my (10 day old) Octy2 COMBI vRS PD170 has a new sports brain.

SuperChip upgraded to 204PS/319lbft

Saw off some woefully unprepared motors on the M40 on the way home: 2007 S3, 2006 BMW 330i, 2006 S-Type Jag.

S-Type jag was the best one - he was really trying but a hill saw to his complete anihilation - ha ha ha!!

God bless the Prince's Risborough hill and tdi torque

Anyway, enough bravado - what does it do?

The first thing you notice is how smooth it has become. Before the upgrade with standard map I stalled a number of times in the no-man's-land of 1,000-1,900 rpm, now the tidal wave of torque can be tickled from 1,500 rpm and the car pulls evenly and confidently from 1,200 rpm.

The step change at 1,900/2,000 has gone and the pull just builds from 1,500 all the way to the 4,500 red line. The car accelerates quicker and quicker as the revs rise - quite un-diesel like.

The acceleration feels like you are in a lower gear doing a lower speed. I wondered why the fuel gauge was dropping so fast then I saw I had spent the best part of 15 minutes at 2 kms a minute - whoops.

The acceleration from 100 kph to 120 kph is extraordinary. Before 6th gear was really just an overdrive/economy ratio. The car's nose raises as if to sniff the air and you are pushed back into the seat.

Of course, as already mentioned, as with most TDIs, hills are great fun. I am sure even some Porkers could be tricked up hill.

I stopped at a garage and when I came back to the car I had forgotten about the remap, and managed to wheelspin (in the dry) my way into the road in second - whoops. I audibly swore at the surprise grunt.

It does seem louder under load, especially above 3.5k.

The sheer ease of increasing your speed is unerving, but intoxicating :D . I true licence loser :(

Definitely 544 squid well spent.

No where's me radar jammer?

Nice! Hope you get roublefree life with superchips.

Nice one, sounds like you'll have fun with that

Don't suppose you'd fancy bringing down to our RR Day this weekend, we've run numerous 2.0T FSI's at this event before but never a PD170 (either mapped or unmapped) and would be really genuinely interested in the results.

Sounds awesome!

I suppose also, being Superchips that you get a warranty too! So when the DPF cloggs up earlier and Skoda won't pay, you shouldn't be left with a dent in your wallet! :)

It had a 6 mile RR today for SuperChips to test the map, but they said if I wanted a printout I would have to pay for one - cheeky gits!

Where's the RR?

Yep, three-year warranty and a money back option to map back to standard if fubar'd.

Also if Skoda kindly "upgrade" my ecu for any reason the software licence is for life (of the car) - so free re-map if accidentally brainwashed.

Do you not remember certain silver Passat the Steve?

The RR day is in Portsmouth - JKM Motor Services

Not a short trip , but shorter by DIESEL

How much does it cost?

... there's probably a search button somewhere here ...

I knew those fecking great links in Steve's signature were a waste of time. :P

Maybe ...... but would be quicker by PETROL :)

Please note Fluffmeister, this thread is not for hi-jacking by the PETROL/DIESEL IS BEST debate squad (we all know it's diesel - so stop wasting everyone's time)

I love my planet, lower your CO2*.

Drive a tractor and save a tree.

(*Gordon Brown will let you have lower Road Fund Licence etc etc)

wow, touchy aren't we ......

I shall retreat to my corner and await more recounts of annihilation,

If this was not on Brisky, I would NOT be so polite :)

It was a joke response.

I would have thought the tree ditty may have given it away if not the sheer definitiveness of the "we all know it's diesel - so stop wasting everyone's time" dogma ;)

The 2.0TFSI will kick your PD's butt anytime mate :D

Stick it on the rollers at JKM and you'll soon see.

Oh dear can-o'-worms time!!!!

Arrgh!!!

I just bought a diesel because:

1) Better overall fuel economy (without trying)

2) I prefer the power delivery - a bit of old skool petrol-2-valve-per-cylinder style laid back torque.

I am sure we all have our reasons for our octane/cetane perversions - but if it's a vRS it means we share a love of Skoda and speed.

Now group hug.

So you coming on Saturday then??

Anyone with VAG-COM going to be there (make it really worth my while)? ;)

Anyone with VAG-COM going to be there (make it really worth my while)? ;)

Surely the excellent company, facilities and the chance to show off your new motor would be enough to make you come ;) .

But in answer to your question, yes I aim to be there and will have my Laptop as will Steve I suspect.

You would need to provide us with the info on achieving what you ask asI've not seen if before myself.

Job done then - another Saturday AM without a lay-in. I hope Sainsbury's do a decent breaky.

I will bring the VAG-COM memory address details.

Cheers Stu

I should add that my VAG-COM services are only normally provided to fully paid up Freedom Members - get your

Can you send the info over so I can have an advance look and make sure I understand what you want.

i will be interested to see if this Superchips map is as lame as other members found in the past... its about time they did get it right.....

From what I understand Superchips have come a long way in the VAG world of recent. I know of a few specialist and tuners who use them and have had some very good results indeed.

the trouble is that a modern petrol turbo drives like a turbo diesel at low revs with effortless pull and more torque than your remapped diesel but the power carries on building even higher but we won't win the mpg arguement even if our fuel costs less :P
