Wheel Refurb (now with pictures)

Featured Replies

Hi all

As promised here's a few pictures of my Audi S3 wheels before and after refurb, and now on the car with Kuhmo KU31's.

The wheels have been powder coated rather than painted and were ready as promised in 1 day.

I'm currently using the Skoda centre caps from original wheels 'cos SHMBO said leaving the Audi caps on was 'sad'. They don't sit flush in the wheel though, so I may need to re-think this. Anyway, pictures with both are here (oooh,it's like having 2 sets of wheels to play with).

nice clean car, will audi a4 5spoke fit my ferby before i put 215x50 on the rims

Looks better with the audi caps on. You should be able to get some adhesive skoda stickers to go over the top of the audi badge.

Looks good, but boy does that car need lowering

:iagree:

Fit yes if they are 5x100. They will also put the speedo out if they are 17"s

  got to admit, as pritty well all the ferbies i now see are lowered, the standard ferbire looks like its on stilts..

Nice wheels though

how much was that and where from "about

Using 205/40/17 or even 215/40/17 tyres will make the speedo more accurate though. It'll still underread by a few mph :thumbup:80mph on the speedo with 205/40/17 is around 75/76mph on the gps

As for the wheels, I quite like those. But as stated earlier car definately needs lowering

NO NO NO NO NO

Sorry for shouting, but I made the mistake of getting A4 wheels. They are 5 x 112 so will definitely not fit. Audi A3 ones are fine, the above S3 ones being the best

Speaking of S3 rims, how did you find the weight of an alloy & tyre, compared to oem or other alloys?

Yup. I got beaten to the "no not A4 wheels" - they are only good for Superbs and Passat - and probably the latest Octavias as the latest Golf has moved up to a similar PCD. I got Audi A4 wheels for my VW and then took about a year to finally settle for using slightly modified Golf GTi centre covers. I originally thought about using a hole cutter and fitting a small VW centre disc into the wheel cover - that would not work. Next I removed the Audi insert and thought about filling in the recess left with plastic padding and spraying the complete inner center part black or some other colour. In your case that might be the best way forward as any self adhesive badges that I had seen all seemed to be too big. I agree that leaving the Audi badge on is a bit sad - well I would expect to get some stick etc. On reflection, it would always seem a smarter move to get wheels that only need a small center cover and not a larger one that covers the bolts as well, I think that by doing that it becomes easier to find a suitable centre cover. I just made a bad choice as Audi also do a similar A4 5 spoke wheel to mine that has exposed wheel bolts - you live and learn (hopefully!)

Almost certainly not the answer you're looking for, but:

My OEM 16" alloys with Proxes T1-R+5.5mm of tread weighed 16.9 Kg;

My 17" Team Dynamics Pro Race 2s with Proxes and 8 mm of tread weighed... 16.9Kg!

Profile looks all wrong for the wheels, looks bad without the the centre caps and you should have lowered it first.

By profile you mean the offset? I prefer them without the caps to be honest, the centres give a little more definition to the overall shape (and I've seen them too often with the caps on).

Certainly saving for some Eibach's now though. ;)

I didn't weigh them, but they're a heavy rim, I'd say they were heavier than the oem rims and tyres I took off.

The profile of the tyre, they look really narrow and the very low profile makes em look weird....

They're a pretty standard width and profile (205/40) so it must be the 7.5" rim width that makes 'em look weird. I knew the rim would stretch them a little, but they haven't stretched enough for the full 'euro' look, perhaps that's the problem.

Perhaps they'll look better when it's been lowered...
