Child seat crash test info

Featured Replies

Hello Folks,

Just a quick question to ask if any of you have some crash test info on child seats, from 9 months upwards? I'm doing my research as our daughter has outgrown the Recaro Isofix baby seat and need a replacement fairly quickly. In Scarborough, we are limited for outlets and places to try them out. If you have anything to help, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Andrew.

I went for a Britax (non Isofix) one that we got from Mothercare. I forget the model but I'll see if I can dig out the book. Did well in Which? reviews, which probably doesn't mean a whole lot, but did fair well in the crash tests. I'd been warned off Recaro ones as they didn't fair as well in crash tests which is a shame as they look excellent.

Plenty of reviews on the web too if you search for them.

According to the book it's the Britax Renaissance (available online - Kiddicare - nav page )

Skinnyman,

The Which reviews are online and have just been updated:

The best buy stage 1 seats were (in order of safety):

Maxi Cosi Priorifix (safest)

Britax Duo Plus Isofix

Chicco C1 Isofix (but only when isofixed)

I remember reading that this was one of the best all rounders. I have got the same one. May not be the most simple to fit, but once you get used to it, and if you leave it in, its very sturdy.

Would highly recommend this seat, but make sure it fits in your car. A few I tried would not fit in my car, due to the leather, make sure you look round though.

That's a good point - don't forget to get one of those non-slip mats for it to sit on too, especially if you have leather....

Thanks for the info guys. I'll look into the recommendations and see what looks the best. I'm not too concerned with cost, I'd rather get the best and pay a bit more.

We have the Britax Duo Plus Isofix which is now doing its second child. Nice and strong and the Isofix mechanism is a doddle to use (unlike the Jane Indy Plus stage 2/3 seat we've got :()

I went for the Maxi Cosi Tobi (Gypsy) and to be honest would not pick a car seat other than Maxi Cosi. They always come out top in tests and are 100% reliable.

Quite a large seat though....

Many thanks for the help folks. In the end I bought a Britax Duo Plus Isofix seat after trying one at Halfords. The problem with some of the IsoFix bases is that the supporting leg means that the base has to be quite a way forward and this restricts the front passenger quite a bit. The Britax fits nicely and took up a lot less room.

So, yet again the forum comes up trumps and the advice was spot on.
