How many horses go missing when it's hot??

Featured Replies

Just wondering - notice that my Fab vRS isn't as "spirited" when it's hot out. No heatsoak, but just hasn't got the same amount of beans...

Is there any rule of thumb for TD engines as far as power loss with temperature??

btw - temps are pretty low today - 38 deg C - was 48 deg about 10 days ago!!

that'll be the hot air being less dense, so the same as heat soak ;)

thanks - I knwo why - what I meant was I've heard 1 hp less for very degree over 20 deg C for petrol engines.

Is it more of a loss for derv?

I'm not sure you can have such a general rule can you as there are far too many factors. For example, if you had a big FMIC you're not going to be losing as much bhp as someone who doesn't have one.....? Same would be true of petrol cars....

Chris

also humidity and air pressure play a part in power so surely it can't be that simple?

Jeez - how much cooling can an intercooler do when it's 48C ?

the same amount of cooling as when its 20 degrees :)

funny tho' - no heatsoak at 48 deg C believe it or not!

think it may be time to clean me airfilter tbh....

Pair of tights mate......air filters are for girls. :D

I think mine loses a tiny bit in the real heat - I think it's more that it gains quite a bit when it's really cold. One benefit of the winter chill. :D

Surley thats the same thing only reversed

It doesnt get worse it starts of bad and gets better, or Its great to start with and gets worse!

Well, in reality I don't think I notice any real difference whatever the weather. :)

yep, whats about 10 bhp when you have around 250? drop in the ocean.....

i lost a fiver this morning?

i lost a fiver this morning?

You could get that back and some more if you reply to my PM about some bits I think you have. ;)

Does the same rule apply to women?

Actually my wife is always cold, but she seems to go better when hot.....

I've confused myself now.....

I'm sure AMD used to have a chart on their website which estimated about 7 bhp loss per 20

Have to say I din't notice much difference with my standard 130

Tried removing fog light too but still no diference

perhaps I don't thrash it enough to get it really hot!

Just as I suspected - wasn't so much the heat as a blocked K&N airfilter.

Looked clean but I knocked out about 2 tablespoonsfuls of sand. Now power is back to normal and there's very little smoke....

Will have to make a mental note to clean my airfilter every 2 months no matter what........
