Transferring number plates

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Bit puzzled here.

Does anyone know what paperwork i'd need to transfer a private plate from a car i used to own, to my new car.

I sold my car to a friend a few years back, with my plate on it, but before we got round to changing it back, he sold the car on.

The new owner is fine with me taking the plate back, but do you think DVLA would allow me to do the transfer seeing as the V5 for the old car isn't in my name ?

I've looked on DVLA but there's no mention on this kind of thing.

Thanks

Johnny.

Transferring a registration mark and how to apply : Directgov - Motoring

You will also need the new owner's V5, MOT certificate (if applicable), 80 squid cheque.

Alternatively put on retention using V778/1 + all the above but
