New MAF required?

Featured Replies

As part of the 'grease up the gearbox mount' fix the other day I had to remove the airbox etc to get to it. Ever since the car has felt a little down on power and my mpg has dropped noticably. I've read that this could be the MAF sensor needing replacement.

Could I have damaged it as I lifted the top half of the airbox out of the way? I did try removing the clip on the MAF to pull it out but gave up as it was a bit fiddly.

The engine check light is not on and I know from experience that a diag can struggle to highlight a dodgy MAF unless it's totally knackered or disconnected.

I'm wondering how much a new one would be.

Anyone else had this and have any idea what to expect

just had a thought, with the battery off surely it will have reset the learning part of the ecu. So the car will be running on base settings will it not?

lend me the car for a day and i am sure it will learn something from my driving style ;)

LOL. Perhaps.....maybe it's 're-learning' after the battery was off.

All I know is it feels flat and it's drinking fuel.

Either way, if it's only

Sure this has been discussd before. Can you not test the MAF by unplugging it and seeing if you notice a difference when the car's driven..?

I think that only works when the MAF is completely destroyed!

Feeling flat and drinking diesel fuel was a characteristic I had with mine. It turned out to be a faulty EGR valve.

Had my EGR valve replaced this morning under extended warranty. Holy hell what a difference. The car feels torquey again and flies down the motorway now. Before m'ways had become a slight struggle.

Just got to see what the effect on the mpg is now. :P

Does your car smoke less with a new EGR?

I am having the same problem with mine atm and that was after popping in Millers Diesel power.

It smokes like hell and I get a lot of hesitation but only at low revs.

Have popped in a fresh full tank of diesel and still have the problem.

sorry to hijack

To be honest I'm not sure mate. Only had it done 3/4 of a day so far and no-one's been behind me to tell me. The rear of the car never really got sooted up anyway (silver).

The power is back though now and MPG seems to have improved. I'm getting the EGR turned down too this weekend to further the improvements and help it from dying again.

If yours is smoky, check the state of the air filter for starters. Air starvation on a diesel results in lots of smoke and poor performance. In addition the MAF could still be at fault.
