How my car will stand on new boolers.

Featured Replies

The wheels/tyres must NOT be the widest part of the car. It is illegal, and should NOT pass an MOT. You have just been lucky, thats all. :)

IIRC is not part of the MOT. However it can be picked up if considered to be unsafe, however this is I believe at the discreation of the authoroties involved.

Remember just because it passes and MOT doesnt strictly mean its road legal. Regardless of a car holding an MOT cert or not there are still things the plod can pick you up on.

Taste and decency? :sofahide:

Well, concidering i personally know a traffic cop and law goes that as long as the tyre thread does not come out of the arch then they are legal. :D

And dale, get some pics up :D

It would be interesting to here what Makefish has to say on this subject as i always thought that your wheels/tyres are illegal if they stick out past the wheel arch!

I checked the MOT manual on friday, nowt in there about wheels sticking out of the arches for the MOT.

Only some note about pedestrian safety of sticking out parts or sharp edges on bodywork.

The Atom has wheel arches over the wheels/tyres though. :)

I was always lead to believe that the wheels can stick out as long as the tread remains covered by the wheel arch which most people that have wide wheels use narrower stretched tyres to keep them under the wheel arch but i supose if a copper wants to pull you he can do but if your given a vehicle defect form then you'd have to take it to an MOT station to be checked but as they have no regulation for wheels sticking out then surely they will have to stamp your form to say the car is legal?

Ordered my new wheels on friday, they are RH Cupraiders 9x17's. Really excited to see them on so did a Photoshop of my car. what do you think.

think i saw this car or one with very sim wheels at vwfest today was uber cool:D

Looking at the pic, it looks as though the tyres are within the wheel arch.

Still looks good either way :)

erm, I may be an authority on some things but this I'm affraid I'll leave to the experts. Car Bibles has an excellent write up about wheels/tyres but I'm not sure if there is anything about the legality of extension past the wheel arch.

i like them

eurorific ;)
