Multifunctional MaxiDOT display for Fabia VRS?

Does anyone have any knowledge about these maxi dot displays?

I wouldnt mind upgrading to having one of these if it's at all possible as I've also seen diagrams of it in the Fabia Owners Manual.

I initially thought that these panels came standard on the VRS's but it seems the information display is the oldskool LCD on the RPM counter which was a tad dissapointing. The maxi dot display is so much cooler!

Check at Stu's thread. It is proving difficult to source.

It was a factory option IF you ordered the OEM sat nav.

There have been threads about this before.

Fitting Maxi Dot to a Mk1 would be like trying to take a crap in the Queens handbag. Probably possible but my god it would be difficult.

It shouldnt be that hard - the only hard bit is to source the darn thing at a reasonable cost. It is a straight swap, but then some coding needs to be done.

If you get dealer to do this it will cost a fortune. No doubt I will visit Mr Stu himself for the fitting/coding and we'll stick up a guide assuming it is a success :)

However please don't expect anything soon as I'm doing loads of traveling in the near future...

I thought the fabia was missing a few sensors....

Or was it Sat Nav?

Some additional wiring was required to get the radio info to display when fitting to an Octy so may be the same for the fabia.

If you bought the OEM satnav off-factory then you got the maxidot option from what I recall, but it was a 2.5k option at the time which was just taking the p*ss so didnt go for that ;)

I have pm'd Stu about this but because I seemed to have missed the whole group buy thing I don't know if i'll even be able to be added to the list of possibles.

Now I have found this I have a question about the coding.

Can this be done using vagcom or does it require specialist tools that I won't be able to get a hold of?

I'll watch this one with interest :)

Me too

To code it you would need your 4 digit SKC and obviously VAG-COM.

Thats good, was scared it may have been some fancy stuff.

SKC from skoda I assume?

Do they give them out easily enough or will that also be pulling teeth?

i too look forward to information on this as would like maxidot but not the factory sat nav if helped

Well, you have got to get it installed in the dash I suppose :)

SKC is on the tag they give you with your keys isn't it, in case you need a new key sorting? Or a stealer can get the code I believe, probably with production of your V5 etc.

Steve

Only two screws hold them in the dash, two plugs behind it and your good to go.

I think you'll need an SKC for the new unit but I need to wait and see on that one.

Fitting it in the dash isn't too much of a problem, I can give things like that a go no problem.

I have that key barcode thing so hopefully it's on that then.

The fact that at the moment it seems like it can probably all be done with things I have thats all I really wanted to know.

Although any information anybody else has is always handy.

me too! Would really love to have this display fitted!

Me too! The maxidot looks soooooo much cooler than the LCD display.

is there anything new on this?

What do you want to know?

I'd like to know whether it's been confirmed working with the Fabia vRS :D

Steve

Me too :D

It seems a lot of people will be interested in this piece of kit if it is indeed do-able :)

Now all we need is some pioneer willing to test it out...

Where's Devonutopia when you need him ;)

yea if a brave briskodian would take the challenge

Well my car is off the road - and IF it gets fixed, this can and will be done as part of getting it back up and running (as it makes sense to do that at that time).

However, be patient as it will take a while ;)

Still need someone to stump up the
