Speedometer Problem

Featured Replies

Hello

Recently I have been having a problem with my speedometer, rev counter, fuel guage and the buzzer that lets you know if you have left the lights on when you open the drivers door.

All four go off seeminly for no reason and sometime later in the journey will come back on. Sometimes for the rest of the journey sometimes for a second and then off again. (More recently It is not working probably 95% of the time)

There seems to be no pattern what so ever to them going on and coming off. I thought originally that it might be hitting a bump or going up/down hill or going at a certain speed, but nothing repeats itself exactly as the time before. I now have no idea what speed i'm doing or how much petrol I have left.

Sometimes also when I try to start the car the immobiliser light flashes, this is resolved by simply taking the key out and putting it back in again.

Strangely, it still shows how many miles are on digital display and they keep going up.

The car is a 1999 Octavia 1.6 Petrol LX

Has anybody any ideas of what this is and is it easy (inexpensive) to fix?

Thanks

Help!

Just found this website, it looks like a common fault with the dash pod itself.
