N/S rear door whistle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a whistling / wind noise that's coming from the N/S rear door that's really bugging me now as I can't seem to get rid of it.

I've adjusted the catch on the C pillar as far in as it will go to clamp the door against the rubber seal but it's made no difference.

According to passengers, when you're sat in the back it's actually quite loud and sounds like it's coming from the edge near the rear quarter glass at the back of the door.

I've inspected the door (and compared it to the silent O/S rear door) and can find nothing obviously wrong.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris.

Its me again

might be worth swapping the door seal over for a new one. they cant be that expensive surley.

I'm not sure it's the seal. It looks mint and there are no gaps that I can see.

I'm gonna try some tests as found on this site:

Finding And Fixing Water And Air Leaks - Popular Mechanics

Sometimes it's a proper roar so it has to be letting in/ out air somewhere.

Ok, think I may have traced it. I turned the fans onto full, got out and felt for air coming out round the doors etc. After wandering round, air comes from a variety of locations but only one caught my interest as it's exactly where the noise comes from.

Windowseal.jpg

Where the rubber seal that goes round the window meets the steel of the door there's a slight gap about 1.5mm across. I could feel the air coming out of here but not in the same place on the O/S rear door.

Is it worth sealing this up do you think? Bit of black silicone sealer may do the trick....

Yer black or clear silcone might help.

my rear quarter glass makes a whistling noise , but only when frost is on it , maybe the seal is shrinking in the cold and leaving a gap like yours

LMFAO. Halfrauds black silicone it is.

Interesting. Also, the frost could have pushed open the gap as water expands when it freezes. Mine seems to do it in all weathers which is even more annoying.

I had a go at playing with the rubber inside the glas as you can move that around quite a bit. It's like a flap that presses down against the glass. I don#t want to have to try sealing that up though as silicone will go everywhere.

If I attack this from the outside then perhaps it'll achieve the same effect I'm hoping and I can keep it quite clean and tidy. ;)

Might be an idea to masking tape the glass off and the paint off. then if it does go everywhere it wont make as much mess ;) Plus its on the same display, on the bottom shelf

LMFAO. Yeah, the 1.4 TDi does struggle in the Roomster. I think I had the Roomster 2 last time and then engine may have been the more gutless one.

Just gave me more of an excuse to cane the nuts off it really. :D

It's funny. many Fabias seem to suffer from wind noise on the N/S rear door. I wonder if it's a design/ manufacturing flaw. If you try the test I did (shutting all the doors with the fans blowing) you should be able to feel where the air is coming from.

I'll do mine properly though as suggested. Masking tape and black silicone required so it's a trip to Halfrauds on the cards. :)
