Radio oddness

Featured Replies

Coming back form the airport last night listening to an MP3 CD on the stereo(MP3 stream I think) and then there was a 'pop' noise and the volume went completely.

No sound from the MP3 disk, nothing when changed to the radio either. The display was working fine just no sound at all no matter what the volume was set at. Switched off and on the unit with no effect. I was nearly home so I just left it to sort out this morning.

My car was one of the group that had the wrong unit fitted from the factory and got changed at the port. I was assuming that a connection had come loose.

This morning everything is fine again, volume fine everything working.

Anyone else had anything like this? It's not happened before but I've only had the car for a month (and I was on holiday for 2 of those).

I used to get the loud pop when I turned off the ignition and it seems to have rectified itself now, it only happened when I first got it.

My audience HU has done this once, has been ok since just as it was before.

Could it be a thermal safety cutout on the amplifier? Cools down overnight, resets, and fine again the next day..?

I have had something similar once or possibly twice. Turning the ignition on and off seemed to sort it , been Ok since. Seems like a common fault, I didn't have it too loud at the time either. I also find on some occasions Radio 4 diificult to pick up othertimes fine. I think I read about similar as well. Perhaps the regulars here can advise

I've had exactly the same thing happen once, with a Stream mp3. As soon as I reached my destination, I switched the ignition off and on again, and everything was fine. I suspected some kind of interference / glitch, causing the amp to go into a protection mode. Whatever it was, it hasn't happened again, so not a problem for me.

Iggy.

Sounds like the same thing.

It wasn't loud. GF was asleep at the time, the 'pop' woke her up.

Hopefully a 1 off or a simple off/on of the ignition.

Ta muchly.

You weren't listening to folk or jazz at the time were you?

You think it was offended? Amy Winehouse was on at the time.

You think I should stick to Czech folk music?

I don't know if this is the same 'pop' sound, but on mine if I turn on the Radio (MP3 Stream) & hold the button for a while there is this very loud 'pop' through the speakers - it actually sounds like a capacitor or something has blown - the HU resets & is fine afterwards. I only tried this when I thought there maybe some other 'secret' settings etc...

I wont be doing that again.

Clearly it can't have been jazz or folk cos you said it went 'pop' and Amy Winehouse definitely falls into this category.

And czech folk music is very nice, by the way.

my audience head unti has done it a few times, take it to the dealer and nothing happens and they wont touch it...if you have had the volume up loud the pop makes the GF **** herself ha ha....so

  • 1 month later...

Small update for you guys.

Went to the dealership with my vRS yesterday and the chaps there updated the firmware for my Stream unit when I took it in for some other work. The random "pop" noise is a known issue and apparently the latest update fixes the issue.

Just ask the dealership for a firmware update and they'll sort it.
