I'll keep you posted Steve, we're down in Cheltenham for a day or so but I'm already going out for a night out where the wife will have to stay in at the hotel with our baby girl.

I'm off for the week and we haven't planned further than that so we'll see what comes of it!

So who did your grill surround, - I assumed it was Superted? I do think it looks fantastic, - pity it's not standard but then it wouldn't look anything out of the ordinary would it?

I've more or less given up on the DIY attempt as it is difficult to get a good finish and I think even if I did the fact that the paint doesn't take very well will invariably mean it will chip off sooner or later...

I'm farly flexible with my job so

Understatement of the century!!! :P ;)

Oi, you don't do so bad yourself ;)

I think it's the flexibility and the motorway miles that does it...:D

What do you both do I think I need to change career paths :P

nice one steve!!! can you buy them already painted???

No, you buy the chrome surround(

Well, that looks to be the iceing on the cake Steve! :) Good job, well done :)

so can i get away with buying a chrome surround, painting it and sticking it on without having to buy the grill etc? i quite like one on mine.

that looks loads better  but I'm not a fan of chrome anyway

This is a mod I have been planning for a while but i'm not so sure now I've seen the pics. It somehow doesn't look as 'mean' with the black grille:confused:

to be honest i think it looks very mean....will i need to quote part numbers or can i just ask for the grill, badge, surround etc when i ring the stealers to find out prices etc???

That's what I did

That looks pretty sweet!!

I think I'll be doing that mod when I get bored of the car!

Still have to install the milotec bonnet lifter yet!

looks good Steve!

Do you know how they dealt with the chrome?

Was it just keyed and painted or was it removed first?

Looks chuffing awesome... an absolutely brilliant mod!

Well, I've finally fitted a 'styling' mod to my car. May not be to everyones taste but I like it :)

Richie I'm still waiting for an answer from you on the Bluetooth kit. If I've not heard today I'll take you off the list.

Steve - we didn't stick around for very long down south as the weather was a bit poo... maybe next time! BTW I never found out who did your grill surround? Are they interested in doing anymore? :)

Yup; that's all that is required.

Well, I've finally fitted a 'styling' mod to my car. May not be to everyone's taste but I like it :)

Very good job; I really do like the colour-coded effect, much better than 'bling' chrome.

I did mine recently. Rather than messing around with stripping off the chrome etc. I had the chrome grill sprayed directly and have then covered it with 3M clear protective film to ward off stone chips. Here is a 'copy' of a post I did in an earleir thread.

"Eventually got my colour-coded grille on over the weekend.

Actually got it fitted in quick time thanks to the guide on Octavia-vrs.com (many thanks to VRStu and Davew), details here;- Octavia-vRS.com - Colour Coded Grille

I was able to keep the Protective Film on but whilst the outer edge was wrapped around the grille surround, I found that the fit on the inner edge (grille surround to grille) was very tight and I had to trim the film for a precise fit. It is not perfect, but having got the film on it may as well do its job.

Here are a couple of pics of the finished article;-

IMHO it looks a lot better than with the standard chrome surround (well I suppose I would say that after the work that I have done)."

I have to say, looking around at other cars, that colour-coding is a discreet 'performance indicator'; Audi us it on the TT and Jaguar on the S-type (chrome on lux spec and colour-coded on sport/XJR spec.

Finally, for all those with race Blue vRS, go on, get your grille painted - you know it makes sense.

where'd you get that 3m film from bahnstormer?

Did you spray it yourself?

I'm pretty sure that it was etched with a primer before spraying but like I said before I'm not the expert :o

The guy I used was a proffessional bodywork specialist and therefore I got a top job but please not that I bought ALL the parts individually to make up a second grille and the part that needs painting (the chrome surround) WILL need removing from the existing grille if you wish to avoid this expense although not advisable imho.

I used these people (not sure if this contravines advertising rules) :-
