Using a different Octane Fuel With Remap

Featured Replies

In the quest to find out the problems with my car, i had spoken to Luke at Jabba who's been very helpfull.

The car has a Jabba remap (Octy vRS) and i was told by the previous owner that it was mapped to 95ron. He was given this info from the previous owner before him, who had the remap done at Jabba.

Now, Jabba say they would never map a car to run on a lesser octane than what is specified by the manufacturer (makes sense)

So, who's word to go with ?

I've read a few posts from the previous owner, who tried 98/99ron in the car, and it ran really bad, they contacted Jabba, who said it was like this, due to the fact the car was mapped at 95, not 98/99.

Now in my belief, it would be the other way round, if a car was mapped to 98/99, and i threw in 95, it would run bad/cut back the boost/timing etc..

I'm just a little confused.

Is there anyway i can find out what it was mapped to ?

I certainly dont want to be using 95 ron (currently am) when it's mapped higher.

I havn't tried 98/99 yet, as i'm about to replace a pipe to try and resolve my 17705 errors, but if that goes well, i may fill it with super etc...

Sorry for the war and peace lenth...

Hope it makes sense.

Johnny.

I think most cars are mapped to 98/99 as it will make the map and the car run better.

I don't notice any difference between the two running wise, 98/99 does have a little extra ooomph in power though.

I would assume that it is set for the higher, can't Jabba have a look for you if it is still a concern?

Timo, i too, would have thought that it was mapped to that, but the 2 previous owners say different.

Also, i'm about 6hrs away from Jabba. I'm in Edinburgh, they're in Peterborough.

Try run a few tanks of RON 98/99 through the system as the ECU will take a while to adapt to the higher octane levels. Maybe the previous owner only tries 1 tank of higher octane every onw and then and did not give it time to settle.

Thanks Jon.

I've spoken to Jabba again, who are looking into it for me. Very helpful they were too.

What they did mention was, if the car was filled with 95, and had 95 in it when mapped, then obviously it would be mapped with that fuel in.

But, in an ideal world, it would be 97 upwards.

Not their fault if it's had 95 in it i suppose.

It's due for a refuel in the next day or so, so i'll run it quite low (not too low though) and brim it with v-power and run that through it. See how it feels.

I certainly cant see how it would harm it !

Mines fine on 95 - which its set for on Revo - if you fill it with 99 its no different other than more expensive! It can be reset to run on 99 as a base figure but its too expensive for me - supposed to be an extra 5 or so hp.

16196.attachMines has a forge i pro map 205 HP (est) and i got this sticker for the fuel flap

Cheers kenny.

Oh, i have your d/v sitting in the car for you.

Wasn't sure when you said you were away on hols. :)

Mine was mapped by Jabba with 95 RON in the tank. The first question they asked me was what fuel was in the tank. I have a company fuel card, and they get miffed if I fill up with Super to often

Just spoken to Carole at Jabba.

She has confirmed that the car was infact mapped on 97ron.

So for the past 2 years since it was mapped, the previous owners have been running it on 95, which indeed could explain any performance drops etc...that they have asked about on here in the past.

Got a new pipe to fit tomorrow, then am taking the throttle body off to give it a good clean, then get it all realigned with VAG-COM.

I always use Tesco 99 RON on mine (cheaper than Shell plus Clubcard points :D:D)

It seems faster/smoother than on 95 RON :thumbup:

Well i'm really just hoping that it's not caused much harm over the few years the guys have been running it on 95.

The light came on this morning, so i'll run it to Tesco, do me shopping then fill it with 99 and see how we go.

Would it not be a good idea to reset the ECU via disconnecting the battery, nothing too loose I belive, and used to do it all the time on the ITR as advised.

Tomorrow night i'll have the car up on the ramp as i'm changing the bottom pipe to try and clear my 17705 errors i've been getting, so at the same time, i'll disconnect the battery and see how it goes from there.

Fingers crossed :D

Filled it with 99 lastnight, so i guess at some point today that'll start to work its way through.

Got my new pipe in the car to fit (turbo > I/C) so hopefully that will solve my 17705 rubbish.

:D

Hope that solves your woes Johnny.:)
