Engine Flush yes or no?

Featured Replies

Quick question, Would it be a good idea to use an engine flush when changing the oil on the pd engine or not? Cars done 40k.

cheers john

I would say no, for the following reasons.

1 You look after your car, having it serviced at the correct intervals using the recommended oil - it shouldn't leave the internals dirty.

2 In older engines where it has been used in the past it has been known to lift some deposits from a relatively harmless place to leave them in a more critical place.

3 In the PD engine, the oil specification is important, diluting it (in my opinion) can only be detrimental.

If you want to pamper it, give it more frequent oil changes.

Thanks for the fast response

Well the car gets an oil change every 5k and has done since i bought it with 20k on .

And after thinking about it it makes sense. The flush might do harm to the arms and cams that control the injectors. I remember problems with the old british laylands where deposits from the sump could be moved to the rocket spray bars and clog them.

thanks

When i had my Fabia Vrs i was given a Skoda TSB by a concerned aquaintance, it advised that at service NOT to use engine flush on the 1.9PD unit.

My car was serviced prior to me receiving this doc and they did indeed use engine flush!.. I can only assume that because the engine had only covered 10k no undue damage was done.........so i would say no...

Because the PD engine's injectors are activated by the camshaft there is extra load on the cam lobes (extra to them operating the valves & corresponding springs) - thus the very specific oil requirements. So an engine flush would be a definite no no.
