When to sell?

Has anyone thoughts on the best age/mileage to change cars. I have a 1.9 TDI Ambient (105 H.P.0 which - in mid September will be 3 years old and has done 58,000 miles.

I was considering cangeing the car in a year or so but have been offered a deal by my local Skoda garage which will efectively mean that (if I go for the deal) depreciation on my current car would effectively be

If you've been offered a deal now that you can afford and you are happy with then I'd say now is the time.

You could always try haggling - It certainly does no harm.

The current offer of the upgrade makes it a good saving.

Just done the same myself, on the vRS Offer.

The debate was keep the Elegance and run it in to the Ground or switch now before I lose too much money on it and have to do MOT & repairs myself as warranty would of expired.

Some good offers out there to be had, but haggle hard and compare a few dealers you've nothing to lose.

How can you tell if a car is an import? Is it a problem that they are imported?

Specs are sometimes different, certain trim items may be missing. Yes I think it may be a problem when it comes to resale value, the warranty still applies but only for 2 years.

Mine's a motorpoint import, the spec seems higher than a 'standard' car, document does not state that its an import but new at first registration, to extend the warranty to 3 years costs

Found this on Honest John website regarding Motorpoint imports:

Back Room: Are Motorpoint Cars UK Spec?

Personally, I buy cars around one year old to avoid the initial depreciation, then keep them for two years until the warranty runs out, then trade-in. I try to calculate the depreciation on the car then pitch the monthly payments to be around the same. I suppose that its a bit like hire purchase.

Currently drive 2.0tdi ambience and very happy with it (couldnt tell you whether its an import or not!).
