cigarette lighter ..stuck..

Featured Replies

First off, i do apologise if this is in the wrong area.

Right this is pretty innocuous, my cigarette lighter is stuck/jammed in the holder!

Originally it was out and in the coin tray, but I dropped a 1p coin in the holder by accident, in the process of trying to take out the 1p coin, I saw a

I wonder if you've blown the fuse, I take it the lighter isn't getting hot whilst plugged in. Try checking the fuse, if it is the fuse then, when changed, the lighter should hopefully ping out when hot enough.

I could be wrong though

Is the fuse for the cigarette lighter socket OK?

Mind you, I thought you could pull the cigarette lighter out of the socket anyway...

hi rob, i havent had the chance to check the fuse box yet..i think hammeet had a good idea, in that, if i replace the fuse first without trying to prise(ruin my console) out the lighter, then it should pop out, once the lighter gets hot..

thanks

 Deffo worth trying this first!

I think there's just one fuse for it in the fuse box that's shared with a couple of things...

rob, can you shed any light on this, i went and had a quick look in anticipation of popping into halfrauds on the way home, and all i can see is it says "49" for the lighter on the fuse box card. how do i know which is slot 49? its a seat ibiza btw if that helps?

many thanks

It should have a layout for the fuse box in your owner's manual, that'll tell you which fuse in the box is the right one for the lighter. You can then pop it out and check if it's blown or not (visual inspection is usually enough in my experience!).

ahh manual is at home..would the fuse be black..really black on inspection with out having to take the fuse out?

The fuse will be something like the above - if it's blown, the middle U shape inside the fuse will not be complete (usually "splits" at the curve of the U). The plastic doesn't necessarily end up discoloured.

I'm not especially familiar with the Ibiza fusebox, but the fuse layout is usually such that you have to pull the fuse out to be able to inspect this...

okay just an update...first of all..thank guys for all your help..VERY much appreciated..

so replacement fuse worked!WOO

...but..my headlight, drivers side is gone now..:(

Glad you got yer ciggy lighter fixed, I think the fuses are easy to blow, have seen a lot of reports of them not working, mine didn't work when I bought my car, although I also heard that old skodas may have been manufactured with it purposefully disconnected... who know!

It's also connected to the "rear child safety" thingy - if you disable the rear windows it also disables the lighter...

As in, it doesn't do anything at all, or does the sidelight work but not dipped beam?

Thought mine would do this, but after changing the fuse I tried it but it still supplied power no matter what I did with the kiddy locks. My friend octy does however stop supplying power when kiddy locks on. I have no kids, so not bothered, also my tomtom is nearly always plugged in so I would prefer a constant supply of power.
