Are you a magnet for aggressive drivers?

Featured Replies

I had a chap stop in front of me (after carving me up!!!) and get out & start shouting. As I undid my seatbelt & opened the door he jumped back in his R reg Puma & forked off.

Very brave until challenged, like most bullies. :finger:

Be careful, you don't know if idiots like that carry guns or knives. People have been known to be killed in road rage incidents.

i found coming along the M1 & M40 earlier with loads of spray that cars soon back off your **** when you leave you rear fogs on, well especially after stu turns on your 2nd foggy ;)

Yes, I am a magnet for agressive drivers.

The Blue lights and battenburg seem to calm them down all the time ;)

Had some idiot in an Imprezza inches off my ****. I brake test him, then a gap appeared on the inside and I just knew he'd swerve into it so I didn't move back in (which I would have done if he wasn't a **** and he'd have been on his way). So he's on my inside and squeezes through me and the car I'm advancing on in the inside lane, but I see it coming so I ease off. Then he's at a speed camera and in front of me and slams hard on the brakes right in front of me. That was the most annoying driver I have encountered.

I would say if you don't care about your car and want a new one, slam on the brakes and claim a dog ran out in front of you or something inane like that. Incurance claims nearly always go in the favour of the person who gets rammed from behind. Hope the car is a write off and claim for whiplash etc.

Most annoying thing that's happened to me recently was a lorry behind me flashing aggressively on the M62 as the traffic was at a stand still. What does he think the flashing's going to do?! Make the traffic disappear? Propell the traffic along? I think not!

But had you signalled your intention to move into the inside lane (as you overtook the car in lane 1) then surely the whole situation would have been resolved. He would have disappeared into the distance and gone and annoyed someone else, and you could have continued your journey without him harrassing you?

Btw, when I was young and foolish I brake tested an idiot in a Rover 216. The chap panicked, lost control and spun his car off the road down a small embankment into a grassy area. Feeling guilty, I pulled over to see if he was ok and he tried to get my insurance details, etc which I refused to give him. Anyway, I was pretty shaken up and rang up the police to speak to someone about this "hypothetical" situation. He said that if an RTC had occurred, I would be held at fault and the insurance company would likely see it that way too (even if I was braking as a result of an animal in the road). He said I may also be charged. If I'm being tailgated now, I will just gradually reduce my speed until they get the message or indicate left to suggest that they can overtake me. Much rather get them in front of me where I can control the situation :D

This guy was really really close at just over 70. I mean inches. I doubt he'd have seen the indicator and the gap he used to squeeze through was small.

Probably could have handled it better though, I have only been driving since feb this year so plenty of time to learn and improve :)

Yep couldn't agree more and I'm still learning (not sure on the improving! ) - someone suggested to me that when you drive you want to maintain a safety bubble around you at all times so that you have space to steer and/or brake into should you need an escape route. So, for example, with the a tailgater I will increase the space in front of my car which means if I need to brake I can do it earlier and more gently and the car behind has less chance of hitting me as he'll be braking harder. Likewise, if I'm in lane 2 on a motorway or dual carriageway looking to overtake a lorry in lane 1, I'll make sure there's a gap in lane 2 ahead of the lorry so that I spend as little time alongside him (potentially in his blindspot) as possible. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but on the whole it works well in my experience :D

basically making sure you always have an escape if ever their was trouble ;)

the "defensive" driving theory works very well

Hehe - although that's not to say there isn't a time and a place for "offensive" driving ;)

The best defense is attack!

The Redex tactic would be very effective. :D I remember the clouds my astra made when we squirted redex into the carb.
