Are you a magnet for aggressive drivers?

Featured Replies

I only seem to get people who think its ok to change lanes into me these days, assuming I'll stop and let them in. Errr, no, I queued in this lane, fook off and join the back. Mainly happens on a roundabout near me over M23, left lane is go off and right to go round, clearly marked like this too. Yet they insist on trying to move over into me. They tend to keep going too and beep their horn when I don't stamp on the brakes to let them in. Last one mounted the kerb, over the grass and nearly hit the fence, idiot.

About an hour ago i was driving around a large roundabout at a decent speed and suddenly noticed a pug 206 right up my pipe

I exited the roundabout onto a small stretch of dual carriage way

Cue the 206 deciding to stop tailgating me and over take me

well

that was his plan:D :D :D

I don't know what the kn*b in the Micra thought he was doing today! He tried to tailgate me, then when I got on the bypass, I just put my foot down:rofl:

In my mirror, through the black mist I had just made, I saw him doing a dangerous overtake of another car that had just pulled out in front of him, and 'cos he could not catch up with me, he started flashing his lights quite a bit:orb_lol:

I had someone overtake me a couple of years ago going up a hill and close to a blind bend, I had to slow down to let him pass, when he did he started weaving side to side....as if to say "ha ha I overtook you....."

he now drives a really bad car and is thick as two short planks.....

These are the most annoying people as they overtake you where it's not safe and then you're stuck behind them chugging along the straights

Chris

I had a lovely experience on the M4 on saturday... driving along in the middle lane overtaking a caravan when a guy in a fiat brava/bravo estate type thing comes onto the motorway decides he doesn't want to sit behind the caravan and pulls over in front of me... I don't have anywhere to go so have to weight the anchors on, give him a bit of a flash and he gives me the bird! I return the favour with which he break checks me then slows down, I move over to overtake and he's sat there glaring at me and shouting at me thoughr a closed window expecting me to hear... anyway, I move back across and he decides he wants to overtake me but instead of passing me sits off my rear wing so I can't move out to overtake again and sits there for 4 miles... what is the point?

I can't help thinking things are getting worse nowadays.

I had a chap stop in front of me (after carving me up!!!) and get out & start shouting. As I undid my seatbelt & opened the door he jumped back in his R reg Puma & forked off.

Very brave until challenged, like most bullies. :finger:

Use the dreaded smoke screen! It does make them slow down fast, thinking that you're gonna come back into them or something's gonna fly off the back of the car.

When you have them back off and hesitate for a moment, you have a choice - to move out of their way or change down and boot it.....

(taken from my unpublished work with the working title of 'Tactics for tailgaters' )

The smoke screen - when I had had my first car (a 1964 Vitesse), I rigged up a screenwash pump, bottle, length of washer wash leading to one of the carbs, and a switch on the dash.

The bottle was filled with Redex....................

If someone tailgated me a flick of the switch dumped a dose of Redex into the carb :eek::eek::eek:

You think the Mongrel smokes? Nothing compared to the thick, white, choking and stinking fumes produced by Redex :D:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

i'm afraid there's a lot of idiots out there, driving like lunatics, doing stupid things and reacting aggressively all the time... if someone drives too close to me to try to make me go faster, like in a 30 zone eg, i'll happily turn cruise control on 30... Usually they back off a little bit. Don't speed up otherwise they win.

I was comming along the A66 yesterday, carefully obeying the speed limits, and gorilla in white van comes flying up my @ss at about 100mph... I (as Jason did) resisted the temptaion to rise, and simply back off very gently to open up more space between me and the vehical infront, so if the was a sudden braking incident, I could brake more gently and aviod white van man crashing into me (defensive driving, as those with a passion for the "art" of driving will recognise)

when I got to keswick was quite glad there was no aggreivement caused by any reaction i might have had to him, as he turned onto my estate, and drove past me as I parked at my house! that's the time you're always glad you wern't giving the d*** head the finger! lol.....

This reminds me of a very funny guy I used to know twenty five years ago .

He drove a Vauxhall Ventora (can't remember the engine size ) which was a real monster.

His party trick was to FLICK A SWITCH ON THE DASH WHICH HE HAD FRIGGED TO LIGHT UP HIS BRAKE LIGHTS, then when the tailgater's front end dipped as they slammed on the anchors, he would floor it and disappear into the distance ! . He also experimented with a similar "rewire" involving reversing lights ! ....food for thought or what chaps ?

Regards,

Bob.

You can do the same in daylight by turning on your headlights. It's childish & dangerous though. :thumbdwn: Sure they won't hit you but they might cause an accident if they're being tailgated too.

Much more fun to do as Sharkrider says - personally I like to reduce speed by 5mph for every foot closer they get. They soon realise what's happening. :D

Do you think it's my car that attracts this kind of person, or simply a fact that nowadays there's more of them about so I stand a higher chance of encountering them?

people like you should take the bus:rofl: it would be quicker:thumbup:

I normally slow down, if in a 30 limit I'll drop to 25 then 20 and keep dropping speed until they back off (which they always do).

Thats hilarious, was thinking of a similar plan!!

The people that annoy me the most are the ones that undertake! What is the point of flying down the inside lane, to cut someone up / or possibly go into the back of someone slower. Had some idiot try this on the way up the A14 - i didn't let him in, and when the traffic did clear he was miles behind everyone. Serves him right!!

Take a stand don't let the under takers in front of you!

But some might argue that if there was space for him to undertake, then maybe you were in the wrong lane? ;)

Last few days driving on A-roads with a mix 60 and 30 limits i've had drivers in front doing 45 in the 60 then continue that speed in the 30. You soon catch them up again. Then behind you get the same sort who tailgate in the 30 and are left behind when I hit the 60 limit. Do they not understand a speed limit sign? And more than a few of these so there must be a lot around!

I hate it when you get idiots driving 40 in a 50 and then when the limit changes to a 30 they carry on at the same speed...are they retarded?

But the problem of using the inside lane is that no one will let you out as they think they have more right to you being there and the reason they are in that lane is to get past you ;)

Back on to tailgaters, i love my lorry, it has an exhaust brake, brilliant for removing tailgaters ;)

Now what's that phrase - two wrongs don't make a right :P Had a case today, I was minding my own business in lane 1 (being overtaken by traffic in lane 2) when lane 2 jams up. I see ahead there is a tractor in lane 1 so I stick on my indicator and look for a gap. I ease off the throttle to match speed with lane 2 and see the Ford Galaxy alongside me is dropping back so there's a good sized gap for me to drift into. I double check, gap is still there so I start to pull across when he decides to close up the gap and use the horn as if to say get out of the way

Why he decided to do that I'll never know - perhaps he was trying to do me a favour and write off my car or maybe he was just an eejit?

Either way, closing a gap to block an undertaker is just silly in my book - you're reducing safety margins by both accelerating into a closing gap and just putting yourself at more risk. Just a waste of fuel and brakes. So what if he gets in front of you. Will that 5 metres really make a big difference to your journey?!

Chris

Since debagging the rear of my vRS, things have been fine. It's waving a magic wand compared to before.

No wonder then!

Brilliant! Plonker should have looked where he was heading, not looking at "the argument" in t'other lane!

How do you stay calm? If someone does that to me (happens occasionally) I get really annoyed.

How do you stay calm? If someone does that to me (happens occasionally) I get really annoyed.

Try and rationalise the following:

1. Is it worth having an accident over?

2. Is it a race/competition?

3. Will trying to prove the point actually prove a point?

4. Is it worth the extra wear and tear on your vehicle by trying to prove the point?

If the answer to these is "no", then is it worth getting annoyed over? Would wager the answer is no.

Then take a deep breath and set about focussing on achieving your goals rather than obstructing other people's. :)

I think it was when a coach pointed out to me that it was only 5-6m and in the bigger scheme of things it really didn't make any difference to my journey/life at all so I'd just be getting worked up over nothing. "Personal State Management" I think it's called.
