buy in Ireland import to GB and save

Featured Replies

I was just wondering why people living in the Uk don't buy they're new cars in Ireland as they would save money.

The P11D value is the RRP less the Vehicle Excise Duty - VED and first registration fee.

VRT- vehicle registration tax is included on every vehicle priced in ireland however it is only applied to the vehicle when registering, so if the vehicle isnt registered in Ireland it would exempt from this fee

eg.

I just checked on Skoda UK website a 2.0 TDI vRs is

The specs vary so they aren't directly comparable. For instance I don't think the CD changer is standard on the RS in Ireland.

A car which is declared as an import can be harder to insure and harder to sell as well as being worth less.

Yea that's true but a Cd Changer is what

I simply used the changer as an example.

you still have to pay vat. 17 1/2 % [ import tax ] :(

And the cost of changing over the registration.

And the cost of changing over the registration.

no.. if you speak nicely to the dealer they will do that for you..

main problem is they want cash so harder to do a trade in..

might still save you a few

Not won't. The pre ptax price of a vrs tdi is

In the case of Mac's example the vRS was better specced in Ireland compared to the UK AFAIK, this is not normally the case.

I posted this a while back about the Petrol vRS, that came with Rear Elec windows, 17" wheels, Maxi Dot, Climate etc etc.

Further to the above :D

All this talk of how dear the New vRS is in the UK got me thinking !!! How much would an Irish one cost to bring into the UK (also shows us how much the Irish Government are robbing us blind of.)

Here goes, the Basic car retails here for around the 32300-32500 mark, less Cash price = around the 30,000 Euro Mark (give or take a couple of hunderd quid depending on dealer)

Here's the interesting part,

Irish VRT = Euro 8,600

Irish VAT = Euro 4,000

Total = Euro 12,500  (No wonder Bertie is on more money than Tony Blair )

30,000 - 12,500 = Euro 17,500

UK VAT is 17.5% I'm told so add this on and it comes in at approx. 20,600 Euros

From XE.com - The World's Favorite Currency and Foreign Exchange Site

20,600.00 Euro = 14,195.35 GBP

I dunno how much you guys can get off for Cash but that’s a difference of 17500 - 14200 = 3,300 Stg

(AND DON'T FORGET THAT THE IRISH SPEC SEEMS BETTER, so add that onto the UK price.

Even compared to the Drive the Deal price its 16351 - 14200 - 2151 Stg cheaper (with a higher spec).

So who's booking the boat :D

Would the speedo have to be changed as an Irish car would be in kilometres?

just drive a couple of km's slower. ;)
