MFD2 DVD nav, upgrade better sound sysytem?

Featured Replies

hi all

been toying with the idea of upgrading to a sat nav. i have the Audience head unit which gicves great sound, but if i upgrade if the MFD2 as good sound wise? Also does it play MP3? The audience is a 6 cd changer head unit but will not accept an IPOD kit, would the MFD2?

your thoughts,

also, anyone have a very cheap one for sale.....(he wishes)

MFD2 DVD are all VW units. Skoda only use CD at present.

The sound on my MFD2 is better then the Stream MP3.

If you have the Audience Amplifier then it's not 100% confirmed that you can use it with an MFD2.

MFD2 will accept the Ipod kit as well an as AV multimedia inputs via an interface.

A list of tried and tested eBay sellers can be found in the install guide on my website.

Quick question,

Does your audience have the 12 speaker upgrade (3 in each door), if it does then chances are the MFD2 will not work as it cannot control the 12 speaker amplifier. To get around this the whole speaker system will need to be re-wired.

There is a solution to use the MFD

I'm not convinced Manny - I want to try one myself before I accept that.

I know its been tried by a dealers before but many dealers have said many things aren't possible when they are.

Look at the pinouts -

The Audience requires a switched power suppliy, in ths case marked as RAD ON, to enable and power up the amplifier. The only pin that differs from the Stream setup that might cause an issue is the one marked Alarm Mute Ext.

Now look at the MFD2 pinouts -

Also if you then take a look at the soft coding options of the MFD2 you will find -

Softcode should read 00012 for an Octavia fitted with DSP Sound System, Cloth interior and a CD Changer

Softcode should read 00022 for an Octavia fitted with DSP Sound System, Leather interior and a CD Changer

its a shame that my audience does not have the extra amp, otherwise we could have tried something.

Yeah. I'm sure it's not insurmountable and I'd like to think it could be done without a 100 Euro interface.
